Help! How do you replace the speedo driven gear in the Transfer Case????
I have a 88 Toyota Pickup 5spd, 22re, the speedo driven gear in the transfer case I assume is stripped since everything else works to that point. Do you have to take the transfer case completely apart?? OR Can you pull the back yoke off the transfer case and get to it that way?? Your help is appreciated!

This page shows the first steps of the dis-assembly of an RF1A transfer case (yours is probably listed on the door pillar). The speedometer drive gear is just about the first to come off.
Have you tried looking through the mounting hole to verify damage to that gear? Removing a staked nut (with the "special service tool") doesn't look like that much fun.

It's probably the nylon gear that comes out from the outside since the drive gear is steel.
If you look at it you will see how it comes apart.
the metal housing that comes out will be stubborn because of dirt and grime and the o-ring that seals it.
