Where does the gasket circled in yellow go? The others are clear to me, but this one has me befuddled.

Those 1/2 moon gaskets that go on the back side of the timing belt cover where the cams come thru, IIRC.

On on each side with the opening pointing down.

I thought you would know it for sure MH, I assumed you would be able to quote the part number in your sleep!

rworegon is correct about the half-moon gaskets. The shorter, stouter gasket marked "L", goes on the passenger side of timing cover based on the factory installation of the old brittle ones I just removed.

For the one circled in yellow, are the two red squares adhesive of some sort?

Yeah, the red tab is part of a red/blue plastic strip. The red portion appears to cover the adhesive on the gasket while the blue portion looks like it is designed to pull the strips off once in location - IDK

Almost seems like it may stick on one of the timing belt covers or on the fan pulley bracket someplace. Hopefully, some one chimes in the the ID for you.

Thanks for posting the diagram Andy, but those two circled in red are not it. I already have those put in place, this is another single gasket that I can't figure out. I have studied it but do not see it on this diagram.

I think I just figured it out! PNC 11119(dead center of the diagram below). It's for the "false" knock sensor wire harness hole. On the RH head, where the knock sensor wire harness isn't supposed to go.


No wonder I'd never seen that one. It wasn't on my 88 3VZE, only 89+.

The other ones, however, are. I was mistaken and I realize that now. But to call them "half-moons" is a bit of a misnomer. They're more like "quarter-moons", but I'd rather refer to them as "C-shaped" personally. I never knew you could replace those, and mine could definitely stand to be replaced. Too bad you can't get them outside of an OEM gasket kit(no individual part #s). The aftermarket gasket kit that I bought when I did my rebuild didn't contain them, or PNC 1119, unfortunately.

MudHippy, you are the man! I knew you would figure it out.

Does'nt look like that gasket is going back on my truck though, I torqued down the intake manifold two weeks ago. Also, I do not remember seeing the old one during disassembly, it likely was removed when the dealer did HG's before I owned the truck.

At least the mystery is solved - thank for investing the time MH.

PS - Yes, "C" shaped makes more sense, I guess one could suggest crescent moon shaped, but half moons is way off

"C" shaped or crescent shaped is MUCH more accurate than what I originally called them, but it was the only thing that came to mind at the time. My bad!

MudHippy, ok...I'll go out on a limb here and say you may be able to get the "C-shaped" gasket seperate. Check the Timing Gear Cover and Rear End Plate page of the EPC...they appear to have individual part numbers for the left and right side.
