Help with electrical problem toyota truck 3vze 1991

Hello, Toyota Truck 4WD 3vz-e 1991 Manual owner, I've been having electrical problems on my truck, maybe it's a bad alt. A couple of days ago I was driving everything on dash looked normal (temp, battery, oil), make a stop, turned the engine off a couple of minutes and then when I try to start the engine just heard a clac noise. A friend of mine help me to start the engine with his car battery, but when it turned on, brake and battery lights started to blink real fast, turned the car off/on and the lights kept blinking. Drove a couple of miles and suddenly it turned off. When trying to start the engine all lights on dash fade away and then reappeared, the clac sound again. First thing I did was tight battery terminals and suddenly it started again, no more brake and battery light, battery gauge was around 14volts, went home and everything ok. Today I turned on the car and the battery is completely dead, I use a voltmeter and read 9 volts. So I used friends battery again and I started the engine, voltage at battery terminals is around 13.5 on idle, and stays if I go to 2000 rpms. I measure voltage at terminal B to ground and it reads 14.2 volts but suddenly it goes to 6volts and then again 14.2 volts and repeats the cycle. Can someone help me what else can I diagnose to detect if it is a bad alt? Thanks

P.D I noticed that there is a ground tiny cable close to airbox on driver's side that is clipped, don't know why, should I fix it?

If terminal B drops below 13.9v, it is almost certainly an alternator problem, unless you have an intermittent wire in the 3 that go to the "A" a plug.

Around here, Autozone and O'Reilly's will test an alternator for free; I'd start there. If the alternator is good, I'd check the voltages on the wires TO the alternator.

Since AZ and OR do this in order to sell you an alternator, check the price at RockAuto first. AZ won't match that, obviously, but you'll know how much you're paying for convenience.

Red face

Don`t forget a problem like that can also be a bad ground

even a loose or corroded battery terminal

An alternator will not charge a dead battery jumping it will get it running but the battery should be charged with a charger
