help car won't pass 3000 rpm

ok so here is my dilemma i just recently bought a 86 toyota pickup and have been caught up with this headache for a few days.

i was told that the car has 11k on a rebuild and it has a upgraded garret turbo from LCE i also saw that it has a aftermarket down pipe.

The problem:

i have a 86 toyota pickup tuck 22rte and the engine will not pass 3000 rpm without the engine dying for a few seconds. if i hold the gas pedal at WOT and when the rpm try to rise to past 3000 rpm the car seems to die and the check engine light turns on for a few seconds and the car starts to bog out then goes back to normal. I am able to hold the gas pedal at WOT past those 3000 rom and when it boggs and i keep on holding the pedal down the car will get power again and keep on going to 4000 rpm then bog out and check engine light will turn on ect.

it seems to be that when boost kicks in the car starts to do this. is there a boost sensor that the car has that make the car go into some sort of limp mode???

Please help i would really want this truck to drive normal i feel that it has so much potential and i just want to get it running the correct way!

Well what code are you getting?

Has this worked correct since you bought it??

This issue did not show up in the test drive??

You were overcome with lust and just had to buy this no matter what was wrong!!!!

This happens driving or with the engine running in neutral??

Now when all this work was done was a new fuel filter and fuel pump installed

Have you watched your fuel pressure gauge when this happens ??

Fuel pump unable to maintain pressure.

fuel lines to small to supply enough volume at peak engine demand.

It also could be the ecu is unable to compensate for the larger injectors .

Sounds to me like you bought a poorly done turbo upgrade that the last owner gave up on and smiled when you took out your wallet.

I can only hope you got it real cheap.

Now this is based on the information you provided maybe you left important facts out.

I wish you well this is a lot of frustration for such little gain over the normally aspirated engine.

Because they have a turbo people lose there ability to think.

Good luck

yes well i thought it was cheap the truck was only 1200 but anyways i just got back from pulling the codes and i get 5 and 14 so oxygen sensor and turbocharger pressure. is this because the truck is boosting too much ? sorry this is my first turbid car.

One must remember those codes include the complete circuit for those things and your ECU.

It could be a poor connection something unhooked

If the waste gate is not working like it should it can cause this .

Have you installed a boost gauge also known as a turbo pressure gauge to see just what is happening

Then if that last owner has done something to increase the boost higher then what the ecu is looking to see it will cause the code as well.

Things like this happen when people don`t think things through and just throw parts on.

Then being in person it might be something else I could be so far off from the real issue one never knows but it gives you some things to look for.

Unfortunately I dunno much about diagnosing the 22rte.

I'm assuming it's this kit?
http://www.lceperformance.com/Pro-Tu...-p/1071010.htm

From the product page:
This turbo kit will work best with a stand-alone fuel management system (like the LC Pro Fuel Injection Kit) or a piggy back system (like the Mass Airflow Conversion Kit).
Maybe he simply never took the recommendation and though it would work without anything else. You're going to have to do some digging and poking to find out exactly what he did/didn't do

If you can ask him about the full list of mods that would probably help narrow your search.

Good luck!

Ok so I actually found what it was after some searching and digging I found out that the ecu will cut off power from the engine past I belive either 7 or 9 pounds of boost. So I extended the rod on the waste gate to lower the boost and now I am actually able to go to 5000 rpm! So I think this problem is solved ! I'm going to confirm and make sure once I get a boost gauge later on this week !

Ok so I have this weird idea that I want to drift this truck so in order to drift it I know I need to upgrade the suspension so what would it cost to do that? Or at least to get it sideways
