help adjust timing

In reference to btdc, do I have to manually turn the crank to a specific point? If not how does this work? Also, what exactly are you doing with the distributor to make adjustments? Forgive the noob questions. I purchased a timing light but cant seem to find any good descriptions on how to do it other then 5 degrees btdc with jumper installed...

Hi
there is a good step by step guide on this forum. the engine bottom pully has a notch in it. i painted my notch white to make it easier to see under timing light. above notch is three marks with numbers. from memory are 0: 5: and 15. you will need a 12mm spanner to undo distribtor adjuster. distribtor needs to be turned anti clock wise to adjust. i wore rubber gloves and altered mine with engine running. the jumper wire goes from t1 to te1. Make sure cel is flashing if yours is auto the overdrive light will flash. i set mine at 12degrees btdc improved bottom end power. very simple to adjust took me less than 20mins including painting notch.
