So I just got this 89 SR5 and its so far in the shape I expected it to be in for the amount I paid for it. However there is one issue that is really bugging me regarding its acceleration. When I start out in 1st, there's no problem till around 1.5k rpm at which point the engine seems to be shuddering or hesitating and it shakes the whole truck back and forth. At that point I shift to 2nd and it stops until I hit 2.5k in 2nd when it starts again and its even worse! When I shift to 3rd, 4th and 5th everything seems to go away. Does anyone have an idea as to what could be causing this?

Does it do it when you step on the gas only or all the time.It might be plugs or a bad u joint

It could be as simple as cracked or bad spark plugs. Sometimes that mass airflow sensor and throttle position sensor is to blame.

Does it happen only in gear?

I'd start cheaply and simply. Check out your spark plugs. Then go to the MAF and TPS. I think that both of those are testable with an ohm meter. You can the the specs from a Chilton's manual.

It only happens when i'm on the gas so I'm assuming it has something to do with the engine. Could be wrong though ??

Bit the bullet and took it in for a tune up. A few hundred dollars later and some nasty lookin points and plugs, all is good. Thanks for the help.
