HELP!! 22RE poor Fuel ecomony in new motor!!
I recently swapped a 22RE from I beleive a 87 or 88ish Toyota $ runner into my 91 toyota pickup. I used to get about 450/500KM (even more) to a tank of gas, now I get barely 300KM. I get an engine light that comes on and off again and the vehicle is clearly burning very rich. The timing was done when the motor was swapped in, as well as all the seals on the motor. What do you guys think?? I am leaning towards O2 sensor but I am not sure??? Thanks.

Hmmm can't really get the codes pulled to easily? Should the O2 sensor on this model be $300+ Canadian??? seems high?? could the parts guy be on drugs?? Does anyone know what the Toyota Part# is for this particular sensor?? Could the older block with the newer vehicle componets affect which sensor i need??? Or could this be why the fuel economy is poor in the first place??? Thanks. (sorry I am kind of inept)

I am having the same problem with my 89 toyota. The check engine light has never come on but i put a new 22re motor in it and i am getting like 15 mpg. I cant find a problem. Also, doesnt seem like it has very much power.

I just put in a new top end and I have an O2 light on. I was burning off coolant when my HG was bad, and I've heard that can zap the sensor pretty quick. Plus, it's been forever since it's been changed.
x2 on the NGK or Denso. Should be under $100.

Well, $300 does seem like a lot, but with the currency differences from US to Canadian, it's hard to say. I'd say that it is possible that your part's guy might be on drugs. The wacky tabacky is legal in some parts of Canada....

I think found the prob. with my 89. My front brakes seem to be "dragging" (not spinning very well when off the ground.) How can this be fixed? Do i need new brakes? Any suggestions?

i had a 22re with the cat removed and the milage sucked, i wound up putting on a high flow cat with a bosch heated 02 sensor "4 wires instead of two" and got 21mpg in my 4x4 with 31s and it was about 16mpg before i put cat back on.
