Help! 1991 4Runner front coil spring??
I know I am NOT mechanically inclined at all, BUT...
Long story short, I had the front shocks replaced 2 years ago, and now replaced under warranty because the front were completely done. I know, Sears...but it was what I could afford at the time. Shocks are the sensatrac, although the size (I am assuming) were for SUVs and light trucks. According to my Chilton book, I should have front Springs!! They are NOT with the shock, like the rear shock/spring assembly. Am I an idiot (the springs are located somewhere else and I am too blind and inept to see them), or is this something Sears forgot to reinstall? (I would think this would be close to an impossibility, but that is why I am asking).
On another note, I haven't logged in for a while, I finally got the running boards off and can tackle the rust this summer!
Thanks!

Step away front the chiltons.
You have torsion bars, Not coil springs..
Look for a LOOONG bar running from your front upper control arm down the side of the frame..

what chiltons are you looking at?! 84-85 have leaf springs, 86-95 have t-bar... it wasnt until 96 (well 95.5 if you want to talk about tacomas) that they have coil overs.

Hey y'all,
Thanks for the replies. Catalog N# 68602 (1989-1996).
Page 8-10: under "coil springs: removal and installation-4Runner"
1. Remove...
2. Disconnect...
3. Remove the shock and coil spring as an assembly.
4. Using a spring compressor, compress the spring...
Needless to say, I though I was screwed.
Thanks for all your help. What manual should I get? Even though I do not do most work, I figure I can still look stuff up.
P.s. That diagram looks much more familiar!
Thanks again!

"would assume they were referencing the rear, since the 4Runners are coil sprung rear and they do not have coilovers in the rear."
That is what I thought, yet it is under "Front Suspension."
Darn "Cut and Paste."

That Chilton manual (one of several I have) does reference the 4Runner with coils... which yours doesn't have. You'd actually want to reference page 8-13 Upper Control Arm Pick-up and 4Runner, but unfortunately, no pics. Haynes manual: 92075 89-95 Pick-Up and 4Runner is a better reference for the suspension (and doesn't try to cover the T100, Tacoma and Land Cruiser like Chilton does) but is generally lacking in every other respect compared to the Chilton.
As for a manual- you can look up lots of information here: https://www.yotatech.com/f116
