heater valve on firewall, (leads to core)

On my new to me purchase the seller said the heater core was bad and not heating.

I back flushed it as described in my searches

I think that maybe something in the dash switch is broken

when I move the dash lever, the firewall heater core valve pushes out (lengthens its wire)

but when I pull the heater dash lever the other way it doesn't shorten up.

When I manually push the valve in (open) I have heat. But as soon as I close the valve using the dash lever it doesn't reopen

I think I've got a loose connection on the actual lever under the dash. the dash lever does move a flap or diverter in the air system and I hear that one moving.

Does anyone have a picture of where or how the dash lever is connected to the pull side of the heater core valve.

any first hand tips or advice is greatly appreciated!

thanks in advance everyone!

sub'd to this one, but mine don't move at all. haha. Funny that it lengthens and not shortens. I just removed mine and completely bypassed it. But takes a little bit longer to warm mine up. Luckily it's a 22r and not 22re as it doesn't affect much.

well,
I think I fixed it if it lasts.
I may have to replace the cable (the blue one) if it doesn't last
the tip was broken from the cable and it was out of the lever hole
the lever still pushed it (cold position) but didn't pull it open (to the hot position)

I was able to bend the cable tip about a quarter inch further down line and re-thread it through the hole.....

at first it didn't pull all the way open (slightly shorter cable)
but I was able to adjust the clip at the firewall and get full range of motion
hopefully my bend won't break later
replacing the whole calbe looks like a major pain in the butt.
