heater slow warm up?
i have a 86 22rte pickup it has always taken along time for my heater to warm up. even when it is at normal temperture. i have bought a new thermostat and heater core and those didnt do anything? any thoughts?

What mix are you running (antifreeze vs water). If you have too much antifreeze, not as much heat will be given off. If you are running 50/50 (or at least close to it) I would check the linkage for the cold-hot slider. You should be able to see the valve mounted near the fire wall that selects how much coolant is ran through the heater core.

and check the heater valve on the firewall. if the cable slipped, it won't let the full flow of coolant through the core, thus making it's overall air temperature cooler.

all 3 of my 80's toyotas (all within the last 2 years) have had minimal heat.
i flushed all 3, and all 3 had sludge in the heater cores themselves. I just replaced one in my 4x, and it works good now (not as good as my bmw, but 10x better).
in my last truck (and possibly all) someone put "radiator-stop-leak" into the system, and i had to replace the rad, therm, hoses, heater core, and flush it 8 times (and still have traces of that stop-leak floating to the top of the new radiator).
i would flush that system, and also the heater core- you can easily do it by removing both heater core hoses from the engine side (leaving the hoses on the heater core side) and simply blasting a garden hose through both directions.
pour in some flush system, run engine for 10 minutes, repeat process.
when i did mine, i used the garden hose the 1st 4 times, and distilled water the last 4 times, and toyota coolant/distilled water mix as a finale.
