Header fitments.

I have an 87 Toyota pickup with a 22r and I just put a header on it. It was used and it leaked like crazy out the top in between the holes. So I got a new gasket....still the same. Sounds like a damn Volkswagen. So i'm just going to buy a new one.

But all the headers I find are for 90-95 years. How different are the engine bays? Would a header for one of those years fit on a 2ND gen pickup?

I'm also wondering is a header gasket would work rather than a manifold gasket. Because a header gaskets holes a a circle and the manifold ones are more of a tear drop shape....and thats where the leaks are coming from.

I couldn't find anything on here about this....so I made a new thread.

I have no problem sealing up my Downey header with a factory style manifold gasket. Although I did use new studs and had to torque down a little more then the manual says.

Are you still using all the smog and air tubes? Because I had to take mine off and the header had the air holes welded up.

they are still on there but not functional. Maybe the header flange warped from welding on the holes. Or is not flat from grinding down the excess weld material. You should have just used blockoff plates.

Like I said I got it used....I should have known better. So Ill buy a new one cause there is a good size gap I can see....enough to be able to fit another piece of gasket in the whole O_O.

But do you think a 90-95 22re header would fit my 2nd gen? Cause thats all I can find.

There out there. Depends on what brands your looking for.
Maybe take that one to a machine shop and having some material taken off of it to flatten it out.

might not be the engine bay, it might be the downpipe length, collector type on the end could be others as well. I am sure there is a reason why the one's you have found only list 90-95.
