?? Head Shim/Deck the block??
(FYI truck is a 86 t-one has 165K miles. My father gave me the truck after he bought it new. I know it was well taken care of)
I took my block and head into a machine shop to have it bored .10 over and have a valve job on the head, after a the head gasket blew
The machine shop called and first said to have it bored .20 over. I asked if .10 over wasn't possible, he said yes but didn't think anybody made pistons .10 over. (I could still see honing in the cylinders so I didn't think it would need .20 over if anything)
The machine shop then said I would need to have the BLOCK decked and need a head shim. If I didnt' use a head shim I would blow another head gasket in two months.
I have never heard of the block being decked after an overheat. That doesn't seem to correlate to what I have read on Yodatech. Does this machine shop know what they are talking about? As far as I have read, if you need a head shim I should consider buying a new head. The machine shop said the head was well within spec, it was the block that was the problem.
Has anybody experianced anything like this before? I'm wondering if I should find a new machine shop that knows what they are doing.
