Head gasket?

I've got a question for anyone who has replaced their gaskets on a 22re.. How hard is it? lol, I'm going to dive in to it once my gasket kit comes in, because I'm not paying someone else to do it.

Search on here and i am sure you will find a few good threads on the topic. Use a camera during the process and label all hoses, nuts, bolts, ect. Good Luck!!!

Do I need a new cam? lol

Is where I'm at currently.. I've got no idea what I am doing beyond this point - so I went to the library and got a manual for 89-91 Toyota Pickups and mine is a 92, I can't imagine them being dramatically different, if at all. I've got my dad helping me, he knows some stuff and has replaced head gaskets on tractors before (used to work for a John Deere dealership)

Gasket kit comes in Friday or Saturday. If anyone has any advice or has done this before, I'd greatly appreciate any info. I searched around, only found some relevant info.

Those 2 threads are worth the time it takes to read through, a lot of very good info there.

Take alot of pictures and label important stuff. I actually setup an extra table in my garage so I would have a place to put things as I took them apart. Also, bolts are easy to misplace. I put them in bags and labeled and stuck them with the parts. I have the FSM for my 89 and my 93 and there is almost no difference in the 2 motors. Take your time and you'll be fine. I'm a computer guy, not a mechanic, and I tore mine apart over the memorial day weekend. (started first try after I got it back together!) I did the head gasket as well as a full timing set. Also dropped the oil pan to get all the broken pieces of chain guide out. Make sure to clean up all the gasket surfaces and a torque wrench is a must for them head bolts. Lots of good write-ups on here as well. Plenty of information if you search. You can avoid some of the gotchas by reading up first. Good luck, and let us know how it turns out.

There's an extra little bolt underneath, I believe. I don't have a 22re but I've heard others complain about this bolt...have you check the FSM? I highly recommend you use it exclusively...

Which year do you have? Pick from here:

There is this like hex looking bolt right near the fuel rail.. does this come out?

It's a 92, didn't see a manual on there.

We have everything else out.

EDIT:

Well, we got the head off and just took the manifold with it.. Turns out there's two gaskets stacked ontop of each other and I'm pretty sure the head is going to be warped. Sigh, I think I bought a lemon. But I'm gonna get it running and in the bogs if it kills me!

I'll have some pics a little later, batteries need charging on camera, and me lol.
