I'm working on a Honda Rancher for a friend.Only problem so far is not being able to find the head-bolt torque.Any one have any idea where to find this info on-line?I hate to order a fsm,for his bike,wait for it to get here,and then torque his bolts for free!

I usually just torque them things as hard as I can by hand. Then check it after a bit. I mean the human hand cant really over torque to badly anyways unless your an ogre.

Surely you're joking! It is easy to break most automotive bolts by overtightening them with a basic ratchet alone.

Nope, dont it before and if you dont crank ont hem you wont break one. Funniest thing is I checked a few times with a torque wrench and it was near the proper torque or pretty close.

This isnt a truck either, its a quad AFAIK. Honda rancher?

Ya think them awesome shadetree mechanics in the backwoods got torque wrenches, think again and they always got fast cars.

head bolt torque is VERY important; I would NOT attempt a head install without proper torque specs & a good torque wrench.

I agree!! I cant believe CJM is advocating that on head bolts! And you wanna freakin bet most shade tree mechanics dont have TQ wrenches? lol

Im about as shadetree as it gets, and if you look in my rolling tool case, you will most definately find a craftsman torque wrench!


3yotys - Swing by your local honda dealership and bring a 6 pack of the mechanics favorite beer. Shoot the bull with him and then ask him about the headbolt torques. Unless he's a former alcoholic, free beer is a garunteed way to make an immediate friend at most mechanic shops.
