Has Your Head Gasket Blown On The Side
i have been losing coolant for the last couple of weeks, and despite all my efforts to locate the leak, i failed. today i got out of my truck and could really smell coolant. got the spot light out checked all the hoses, and then noticed the block was wet on the drivers side. the gasket is leaking to the outside. no water in exhaust or in the oil. this is a first for me. mine have always let water into the oil and not leaked to the outside. any ideas why?

I just replaced a head gasket on my truck that was only leaking radiator fluid
on the drivers side in between #1 and 2 cylinder. I had slightly lower
compression on the #2 cylinder but might have been from my old cylinder
head that was burning oil. I didn't have radiator fluid in the oil either. Same
thing happened to my 4runner.
I think it might be from these two things:
Corroded away coolant ports which allows fluid to absorb easier into the gasket making it weak.
Overheating or just building up too much pressure in the coolant system.

the freeze plug, yeah thats what i was gonna say. mine is leaking out of the freeze plugs. if the freeze plugs is all thats leaking, then id say dont worry about it unless you dont like cleaning up coolant, just keep an eye on the coolant level.
