hard start

89 toyota pickup 3vze has a hard time starting hot or cold. will start up after a few cranks but sputters for a few seconds and sometimes requires gas pedel to get it going. Runs well once started. Replaced spark plugs and has new dist cap. also replaced cold start injector. Any ideas what to try next? i read about some coolant sensor or something any more info? or any other suggestions? thanks

Anybody had this problem? id like to get the engine running properly before i sell it (the engine not the truck) Im going to be making a run to the junkyard to get another ect and will be doing a fuel pressure test tomorrow. Also what should the pressure be before starting and while running? Im thinking the fuel pressure is not the problem unless for some reason the pump isnt cycling on when i turn the key, as i have tried turning the key back and forth before starting. Is there anything else to check?

The fuel filter is definitely maybe.. My own was clogged pretty bad and made the truck stutter. Also check your VAFM. It's the little flappy door inside of your intake right after the air filter. Those things like to get sticky and not let air in. Mine did this as well, and a quick shot of carb cleaner loosened it right up. Without being there to see the truck in person, I'd guess these two. But it's also because I'm sure you want to avoid the fuel pump.. Lol

so, an update on my issue. I checked the codes and i got codes 12 and 52. for code 12 i saw IGNITER/IGNITER CIRCUIT and DISTRIBUTOR/CIRCUIT. the previous owner put a new distributor cap on so im thinking this isnt the problem. could the igniter be causing the issue? it seems to run fine once started but is hard to start hot or cold
thanks
