Hella sells the H4 kit. I just installed it in my truck. It is a glass bulb just like you have put you can put the bulbs inside it like a regular style light.

Hella e-code lense. Great pattern, and you won't blind anyone with the sharp cutoff.

H4 is the type of bulb.

You have sealed beam headlights. I.e when it burns out, you replace the whole light, not the bulb. Obviously these replacments never get that much R&D put into their lense pattern.

A non sealed beam 'h4 conversion' gives you a dedicated lense/housing. Then you can change your bulbs to some of the many many aftermarket selections

Jay:
Both my lenses are the same. Is there a left and right? The pattern looks one sided?

my 9004 replacements are the same pattern left to right: they both have a sharp cut-off (dip down) to the left (it's the USA so we drive on the right and a sharp cut-off to the left helps oncoming traffic not be blinded) and on the right, the lenses flare the pattern up to help light up road-side signs... and they are DOT legal.

There is not a left and right model light... R and L are the same.. They both allow light to leak above horizon on the curb side.

For e-code lights, there are right hand drive and left hand drive models (because the curb is on the opposite side too). Any reputable retailer will sell you left hand drive lights if you live in the US.

Well the slash cut triangle is towards the bottom of the lense and facing towards the oncoming traffic.

Yeah, but if you look at the beam pattern on a wall, you'll notice it's mirrored, going up, and away from traffic

And Hella E-codes are about the best housing you're going to get. Spend the money on them, especially if you're going to be putting HID retrofits into them. Cheap ebay housings may work OK for standard halogens, but just scatter waaaaay too much with HIDs. I run a set of Hella E-codes, and HIDs on my Supra, but it's in storage, so I can't post pictures of the cut-off. It's pretty damn good though.

thanks for clearing it up for me

Get the e-codes, such a nice lense. Check my cardomain for pictures of the parts and the lense pattern on the road.

I really feel the e-code lense pattern is so much smarter then the regular DOT pattern. The e-code lays down smooth even light with a very sharp cutoff. Unlike the dot which kinda throws the light everywhere, including up to light up overhead signs (and blind other drivers). I have yet to notice any cons for these babys

They are DOT legal in canada at least

p.s these lights can be had (I got mine here) www.rallylights.com

What's the difference between an E-Code and an H4? Also in price typically? I bought Hella H4 Vision Plus lights for mine and upgraded to a slightly more powerful bulb.

E-code is the style of lense (european code) And h4 is the kind of bulb.. Totally different subjects.

I see, so my lenses would be E-Codes then? Because they have H4 stamped in the glass.

H4 is the type of bulb, be it E-Code or not. E-Code and H4 have no relation to each other; they mean to completely different things. The headlight could take a 9006 bulb and still be E-Code. E-Code headlights are just as he said, for European vehicles; the spread pattern on their headlights are different from North American vehicles. Normally you'll notice this in the way that the light beam tends to slant downward on the left on American cars. If you order E-Code conversiona, the light pattern remains flat (which BTW I believe is illegal by DOT standards in the states, due to the fact it directs light right into oncoming traffic).

Just because you have H4 bulbs does not mean the lights are E-Code.

Post a pic of your light, we'll be able to tell you if their E-Code just by the way the reflector looks; normally is easy to tell on these square beam lights

I'm running a set of E-Code conversions myself and I love em, but one's leaking I just haven't got around to replacing them yet; the bulb hasn't burned out yet somehow...
