Grad Money Burning a Hole in my Pockets.

Okay, so I graduated a week ago yesterday and most of my loot is going to the 4Runner. (just as most of my money does) So, I'm looking more into performance things to do i.e. intake exhaust gearing. I already have a lift and new tires, but i need to take out the coil spacer in the back and throw in a cruiser coil. Does anyone have any good ideas to do with about $750? I'm already doing an ISR and maybe a 7mge swap next week. SOOOOOO??

P.S. I have seen the 3L thread going for mods, but there really aren't any prices listed so I don't have a ton to go off of. Thanks. It's a 3.slow with auto tranny and stock gearing.

I'd recommend gears to match the final tire size you wish to install and a locker for the rear. The gears will get you better economy (money saved in the long run) and the locker will allow you to go a lot of places. I've wheeled both my rigs open and then locked and the locker is worth it's weight in gold for what it does for you off road.

I'm liking the regearing idea. I was thinking more above transmission mods or upgrades though. The locker may be too much for my skill level at this point, but it's surely down the road.

Maybe new coils for the rear? Old man emu 901s? 2.5~ inches of lift and more carrying capacsity.

But i would do the gears first. Dont forget about the front diff too haha.

Well while you are adding gears, would be the perfect time to install a locker so you don't have to pay someone twice for labor.

Okay, so I like the gears and headers, but all the headers I'm finding are in the 550-750 range, does anyone know of a place to get a better deal other than going to a shop and having them custom made? And 904 I'll be doing the installs myself so the paying someone part doesn't apply too much.

make s ure your going to keep this truck and that your going to keep the engine!

what do you do with this truck?? hard offroad trails? dd??? cruiser with a system??

pick how big of tire you want... if you already have them.. if your offroad id go for armour

if you want proformance id go header and intake..

it up to you but it real easy to buy fancy parts but its also very expensive if you shop around ebay or craigs list you can make more of your cash!!!
but i know the feeling of money burning a whole in yer pockeT!

It's my DD most weeks, but every other weekend I make a point to go wheeling. This summer may be slow with the work and heat and all, but over the end of the break and during the fall and what we call winter I'll be hitting the trails a ton more. I was thinking of doing headers and some intake mods and maybe a much larger exhaust. The only thing I can think of to make the 3L stronger and more efficient is to get it to breathe better. I'm sure as nuts not about to go deep into this thing and bore it out so I think those are the obvious options. I just didn't know if anyone had a better deal running on a set of headers for sale.

The reason I'm looking for the power options is because my drive from my house to my college is about 35 miles each way and I'd rather be able to pass a few people on the freeway on the way there than have to leave at 5 every morning lol. I'm gonna get at the intake this coming week and then work from there, if the results are good enough then I'll skip the headers and go with regearing and throw down for some tube bumpers.

I wish I could import one of the overseas diesels for my 4R. That's what I'd call a worthwhile swap. They're never on ebay or anything. I surely will man, thanks for the help.

That's too cool man. IDK if I have that much dough to throw around though, I'd probably end up with a newer iForce first lol.

gears will help bring some life to a 3.0...no sense is doing engine mods on a POS engine if you are trying to push bigger tires on stock gears...you can do front and rear gears for about $900..so you just need to find $150

as for a locker, consider a lunch box locker like an Aussie. I have about 2K miles on mine, did the set up myself following Zuk's write up at gearinstalls.com not bad for about $275 delivered to my door.

one option is to save your money...

If you planned on doing gears yourself, then putting a Aussie locker in is well within your capabilities.
