Good deal on 3vze 3.0?
I need a new engine for my 2nd gen. with a 3vze. I can get a rebuilt from a remanuf. about 2hrs away. Longblock completely rebuilt $1850/$350 core. Rebuild mine same $. What they call "dealer drop-in" same longblock with new alternator, starter, knock sensor, oil pan and I think power steering pump for $2450. 36 mo./60K mi waurantee. No valve adjust. required after break-in. Any opinions on which way to go? He lists on ebay and specializes on imports.

I realize I'll still have the 3.slow but cost is an issue. Like to stay under $3K if possible. Truck has some frame rust issues. I'll be using my local mechanic for the install.

That's what I'm saying - for about the same money, you could do a 3.4 and have a better motor, or for a bunch less, you could put in a 4.3 Chevy or a 22RE and have as good, if not better, motor.

man for that kind of money I would spend 2k more and buy another 4runner
theres a guy down the street from me selling a 3 gen for 5500$ went by last night and he down tom 4900$
wish I had the cash for it
I know he is going to drop it more soon I has been sitting there for a few weeks now.

Thanks for your opinion tc...I'll check with my mechanic if he has any experience swapping in a 3.4. Still think it might cost more $ for the engine plus the mods.

I'm considering Orient...a little more $ plus the waurantee requires a valve adj. after like 500 mi...which will cost another several hundred I'm sure.

Talk to your mechanic, I had a local mechanic install a 22re from them last year he mentioned to me come back to adjust the valves after 500 miles. It was included in the $900 installation fee.

Yea..thanks pruney..I'll be talking to my mech. tomorrow and I'll see what he says..My original post was deciding if I should go for the longblock with the new alt., starter, knock sensor, and power steering pump and oil pan for $600 more.."dealer drop-in"?
