Going to look at a 1990 with a SAS today...
And I was wondering what some of the things I should watch out for? here are the specs on the truck:
-1990 Toyota Ext Cab 4x4 5spd.
-Transplanted 87' Toyota 2.4L Turbo Diesel
-Solid Front Axle - Leaf suspension
-269,000km-chasis 225,000km-motor
-31x10.5x15" Dual Batteries
-Total build up minus motor
-Body and Frame are A1
-New Timing belt, belts, filters
-New Brake and Fuel lines, front fenders
-New Drums, shoes, calipers, exhaust, steady bearing
-New Ujoints, machined shafts, front leafs
-Rebuilt Alt. and starter, rad, thermostat
-MVI Feb08 Tailgate Stolen
-Solid mechanical truck drives straight
-Motor is high mileage and smokes a bit
-Comes with Tilt/Roll/Altimeter cluster
If it is in good shape, is the $3000.00 asking price reasonable, or should I try to bump him down a bit? Thanks

Well, I went and looked at it today, and im really not interested, but here is the link in case somebody is:

The diesel engine definitely needs rings and gaskets, even though it is running. The engine sounds alright though. Also, the glow plugs were initiated by pushing a button on the dash, which I found kind of odd(is this normal, I really have no experience with diesel motors???)
The axle swap itself is all homemade, the shock towers and spring shackles are basically just square tubing. This might not be bad, but the welds look bubbly and inconsistant. Whoever cut the IFS out and welded plates in did a good job though. The frame is in really good shape from what I can see, and it is clean on the inside of the frame.
It needs front wheel bearings, both rear ends are leaking, and the tires are half worn.
The box is getting kind of seedy, but it is easily repairable. The cab seems to be in decent shape, but the carpet was absolutely soaked and looks like it has been for a while, so im not to sure about the floors. I suppose thats about it and thanks for the above responses.
