Getting seats redone

If you have the option to get the seats redone in your 1st gen runner DON'T!!! I got quoted anywhere from 900$ to 1700$ to get new foam for the fronts and matching upholstery (spelling?) for the front and rear. These are DLX seats, no lumbar or anything....... robbery I tell you, robbery.

I'll be buying seats somewhere and swapping them in. I'll let you know how it goes.

Best option is to get some from another vehicle and swap the sliders or get some seat covers.

I typically find someone who does what I need done and horse trade.

I just found some SR5 buckets (all the lumbar, side skirt, kidney pad, etc) and am bidding on them. We'll see what happens. I really really like the Toyota factory SR5 buckets and would love to swap some in.

Keep your fingers crossed. The less money I spend on seats means more money I send to you for sliders.

Are you crossing your fingers?

edit: That bikini top I got from you is freaking BAD ASS!!!!! I get looks everywhere I go and have had several guys (and one little blonde thing) ask where I got it. Of course I said "The Wabbit can fab it" and gave them your web page. Thanks again!!!!!!

Oh I know, dude. Totally wish I had SR5 stuff..... Oh wait I do!! HAHAAH!!

Seriously, though, junkyard or craigslist is your best bet. I had to do that after I broke my drivers seat. Thats what I get for having too much space between the tires and the ground.

Yeah when you can't crawl em' I guess you have to jump em'. I don't have that issue since I "rock" everything in my path......

I bid on a set of seats earlier and lost it my 5.37$ but since it was upwards of 300$ I wasn't too concerned. I have another line on some seats and am working that as we type. I'll let ya'll know.

I'm sure you've tried Craigslist right? My buddy converted his bench seat in his '88 to buckets for $40. There darn nice seats too.

Man I've tried. The issue we have down here is the weather. It's dry as hell and our rigs don't rust but all the material inside dry rots to hell. I've hit every scrap yard, CL listing, etc and all of the seats are shot.

We have perfect sheet metal and easy to remove bolts/nuts but the inside is as rotten as the grave.......

I've been quote $200 to $250 a seat (buckets) to be re-upholstered.
I'd keep the cushions as is, I like my nicely broken in seat.

I've heard of guys taking the seat fabric off, cutting all the stiches and then using that as the pattern to sew up a new seat/foam cover.

I'm probably just gonna get my roommate or someone to sew me up a pair. Trade for a couple bottles of wine.

I have heard that there is a company called mezi just south of El Paso that will do it for chicken scratch. Not only will they boggle your mind with BS they will reupholster your seats with it as well but other than that, the craftsmanship is top notch and the work is guaranteed to look kissy cute even after the margaritas have worn off.

On the flipside, my friend who took delivery of a Challenge Stradale and had the buckets replaced with the Daytona 360s wants $5000 for each and I'm almost positive that is just an opening figure.

dude... come out here junkers... almost once a month our Pick-N-Pull out here has a "any seat $10" day...

and ive come across really nice Supra 9 way adjustable seats too... IN BLACK!!! and nice condition!! but i didnt have 20 bucks...

consider it, bro... it'd be a nice vacation, youd get new seats, AND it will still be cheaper than gettin em re-upholstered...

if you take an trip down to Mexico you can get your upholstery done dirt cheep, just make sure you stand there and watch them so they don't stuff your seat with straw or drugs.

I recently ordered 86 DLX replacement seat covers from this outfit: http://www.automotiveinteriors.com/. Quality and fit is excellent. Total cost for both front buckets shipped was $220.

If your roommate is willing to sew up new seats for you what kind of wine are you giving her ? Tell her I'll give 3 bottles of wine to fix mine instead of your insulting 2 bottle offer

Anyway, good luck Junkers. I enjoyed your assessment of the New Mexico weather and the havoc it plays on your interior material.
