if i get 5.29s in the rear and run wat i belive to be stock gears in the front of a 94 pickup manual trans. will they bind up the t case while off road or will i be ok.
how do i figure out what gear ratio i have if the diff is out of the axel and does not have any markings on the ring gear thanks for the help.

It won't be good for the T-Case if you do that. From what I've heard, if you gear the front different than the back, even just a small amount creates a large amount of stress on the T-case. I wouldn't do it, unless I did the front, too.

dam thats what i was thinking but i need to get the soild axel in and i can gear that instead of the ifs also i need to grt the gears in cause im got 35s on it and its straining my engine and killin my mpg. if some ons got 5 29s for ifs let me know thanks

You could probably get away with regearing the rear, and then doing the front once you got the solid front axle on. Just DON'T plan on putting it in 4X4 till your gears are the same. And I think it might be a good idea to have the manual locking hubs just in case. But I wouldn't do it...

I still dont see why people says 35 kill your hp. I raced a cj-7 the other day with a inline 6 and 35x13.50 swampers and beat him and im runnin 4.10 5spd 4cyl. Sure it not a dang supra but these truck arent made for speedin tickets.

Imo I would just save up and wait to do the swap all at once thats what im doin. If you ever need 4wd while you have the gears like that you might be cryin.

running with 2 different gear ratios is stupid, you will get major binding, say if you went to 5.29's rear and whatever you got stock up front (assuming 4.10-4.56's) your rear end will be pushing in and your front end will be getting pulled in, the tires would have to be on ULTRA slick mud or somthing so they can spin at different speeds.
It just wouldnt work right, so save yourself the trouble and don't do it.
regear the rear end if you want just dont go into 4wd.

jack up one of your rear wheels.
mark the wheel and mark the driveshaft.
spin the wheel 20 times and count how many times the driveshaft spins, take that number divide by 10 and there's your gear ratio.
ex.
Driveshaft spins 45.6 times / by 10 = 4.56 gears.

Bad for the transfer case?
I'd say so.
Running 529's and 4.10s will break either
a) front diff
b) front u joints (if you're lucky)
c) transfercase (most likely)
By break, i mean complete failure, possibly stripped gears, possibly cracked case, etc.
Guys with Dana's up front and toys in the rear run different ratios because they are very, very close, and they can get away with it in the dirt because the wheels can slip.
They cannot slip enough to overcome a 4.10 to 5.29 difference.
