Gear question

So, my truck is a 90 4runner 5 speed with a 22re 4x4

When I got it, it had 31's, and the guy who had it before me and the guy I got it from always had 31's on it. The speedo was always perfect all the way up to 75 (never gone faster) checked with GPS and road side radar signs.

I'd assume a 22re 5speed comes with 4.10's but the speedo would be off with the 31's and 4.10's but it wasn't at all. I put 33x10.5's on yesterday and now at 65mph my speedo says 60. Is there a way this truck came with 31's from the dealer and the door tag is wrong? Did the driveshaft check and I think it's 4.30 but I really don't know.
No previous owner ever re- geared it. I'm the third owner.
So question is; is it possible the truck came with 4.30's? Like a dealer option with 31's or something? Cause with 4.10 and 33" tires my speedo should be waaaaay more off than 5mph @65mph.

Thanks for any answer,
Tyler

31" wheels were only available with the V6, they used a 4.56 ratio. This of course doesn't rule out the dealer or someone changing them out, it's just the info in the sales brochure.

The standard allowable deviation in the speedo is about 3-5mph

But why with 31" tires was the speedo perfect at all speeds?

Because it's allowed to be 5mph off maybe. And there is no way to know what was done at the dealer w/o asking them, which of course they might not have the records but you can try to find out.

The only fool proof way to know whats in there is to pull it and inspect it. You can check the paint code, but that's not fool proof, it might not have been updated.

When you do the rotation check make sure you paint marks on the tire and shafts, also do atleast 2 revolutions. The more rev's the more accurate the estimate, within reason of course.

You might find this helpful

http://www.grimmjeeper.com/gears.html

The difference between 31's and 33's at 3k rpm is within 5 mph, which is within the speedo deviation and well within the GPS deviation.

Yea I tried searching around and can't find an answer. Maybe it has 4.30's and that's why the 31's the speedo was dead acurate and now it's off. Trucks door tag says it came with 225/75/15's. maybe someone re geared it or something. I don't know haha. Truck seems better now. Anyone know how off their milage is with 33's? And speedo off by exactly 5mph at 60mph on the speedo?

Tire size is a dealer option. But what does the tag say the gears are, I don't see it above?
