Gear oil Capacities??

got an 87' 4x4, rear diff was starting to howl and I heard some other unusual noises, drivetrain related. topped off rear diff and now need to do tranny and t-case. on both of these the check/fill hole bolt is rounded (not my doin) I need to find out the gear oil capacities for these. I have looked all over trying to find them and can't. and I have no manual. i figure I will just drain, and fill from top of tranny/t-case. anyone have this info? I need to do this in the morning before work, so I don't have to freeze on my motorcycle. thanks in advance for any help.

good god, how do you even round those? You'd have to be seriously handicapped....

its like 3 qts in the tranny and 1.5ish in the tcase but honestly i dont know the exact numbers, its best to actually get the fill plugs OUT and fill till ya spill.

I know 4crawler has the fill capacities on his site. If my office did not block the site, I would link it for you.

Not hard to find, just search a a bit

Fill capacities are listed in the free downloadable online FSM's. (Factory Service Manuals).

Bolts are usually rounded off because they haven't been checked or overtightened, seize up and some jackwagon tried to bust em loose with 12 pt sockets/wrenches and not a 6pt impact socket.

It's still easier to fill from the shifters IMO.

You still need to fix the fill plugs.
W56 is 2-3 quarts and tcase is 1-2 quarts.

Fill until it dribbles out fill plug hole.

I have had to use a pipe wrench once to break one of those bolts. It worked actually pretty good, just make sure to get a new bolt from the dealer. The drain bolt has a magnet in it and the fill bolt is just a plain bolt.

You can get replacement bolts with a hex/allen head from MarlinCrawler; WabFab might have them, too.....?
