Gauge Temp Sensors-22RE

I recently replaced the temp sensor for the temp gauge since there was a chance coolant was leaking out the sensor(turned out the coolant leak was elsewhere); The new sensor made the gauge read higher than the old--normal running temp 1/2 way up instead of about 1/3 up; the engine is running normally at normal temp, but the sensor change made the gauge read higher than I'm used to. Also the FSM mentions[cryptically, of course] a different electrical resistance from a gauge in a truck with vs. without a tach. Mine has no tach.
Questions:1) Are there 2 different temp sensors, one for 22RE's with a tach and one for 22RE's without a tach?
2)Is it common and normal for different sensors to have enough sample variance to make the gauge read differently? I ask here 'cause the local Toyota dealer parts guys don't exactly have a great depth of knowledge on this stuff. To anyone who knows, thanks in advance! -KB-
