Gas Smell when running need some help

Ok so here is the deal this is a 1992 Toyota Pickup 4wd with a 22re. I am getting a gas smell when running and I cant tell where its comming from. I cant find any leaks anywhere. The gas cap is holding pressure, when i take the cap off it releaves the pressure. This has me believe that the tank or incomming lines dont have a leak, right? I did rebuild my head about 6-8 months ago so I was thinking fuel injectors but im not sure, I didnt have the smell until about 3-4 months ago and now its getting to be state inspection time.

One other peculiar note is that while the engine is running im starting to get fuel vapor in the cab with the ventilation fan on, so Im thinking this might be in the engine bay.

Any help would be great.

Jason

I would have to guess a busted O ring on one of the injectors if you're sure none of the lines are leaking.

Just a guess here, but check the charcole canister under the hood, make sure its not plugged and that all of the hoses going to it are good. It vents the vapors from the gas tank and if presure is building up in the tank it could be forcing more vapor from the tank. Also check the gas cap, it should hold a little presure, but not a lot.

It holds alot of pressure, when you start unscrewing it is alot more pressure than any vehicle I have had. Also I have tried doing the charcoal canister cleaning and I only get a little air out of it, how much air should come out of it when you put the specified pressure into it, I think its 40lbs. Should it blow out of the one side how a person would blow out of a straw for example? Mine had alot of backpressure and was only a trickle of air.

Obviously I don't need to say this.... but find it. When my sister complained of a gas smell, I gave her that advice.... she ignored it, and it cost her a vehicle due to an engine fire... apparently a loose fitting on a gas line after repair work done by "a friend".

So bump the priority on finding the problem.

x2000 on not driving it until you find the leak. Anyone who has ever witnessed a fuel-fed vehicle fire will tell you the same thing.

you need to check the fuel pump bracket just above the tank. Those are notorious for rusting then scaling away and causing a leak. Check to see if you have any fuel along the frame after you start up the engine.

It took me a about two weeks to track it down, but that is where my leak was.

I ended up digging underneath the truck again and found the gas leak up the fire wall some on the return line where it does a right 90 then goes 3ins and a down 90. The leak was at the clamp there and couldnt be seen. I saw a little wetness and everything else is history.
