Funny whining sound

When I start my truck up, there is a whining sound that starts out low pitched and as the truck warms up, the pitch gets higher and then slowly goes away after about ten minutes. It sounds like its coming from the passenger side, but I don't know from what component (that sounds technical !). I have a 22re with about 115,000 on it.

Anybody got any ideas? http://www.yotatech.com/newthread.ph...wthread&f=116#

Although "funny whining sound" is very specifc, you may need to clarify a bit more.

You might be able to get closer to the cause by listening with a long screwdriver or better yet stethescope (spelling?) from your local auto shop. You can pin point sounds better that way.

Hope this helps point you in the right direction.

if you kick it hard enough and yell, it should stop being funny, but it may still whine, if that is the case, its better to just ignore it

but on a serious note, just a guess, check pumps, anything that spins with a belt....
heres a real simple check, that anyone should do just because, check belt conditions and tensions.... sorry i dont have the specs, check haynes manual.... 12.99 keep us updated

Power steering pump. Mine does it to. When it is really cold it is worse. Mine has been doing it for years with no problems. Maybe try changing the fluid. I was running auto tranny fluid in mine.

Well, is it a whirring sound or a whining sound? Whining could be belts, whirring could be your fan clutch.

It's a cold belt rubbing on a cold pully. Once both get hot, the belt warms up and (sticks) to it better so it don't yell. The inside of the belt will get a glaze to it and the problem will get worse (louder). I would check into it cause if it's the alt belt.....that's not good.

really depends on the sound. i, like flash319, have a whine coming from my power steering pump. to tell if its the belts, or the pump itself, get some belt dressing, or wd40 works in a pinch to, and when you first start the truck on a cold day, pop the hood, hit all the belts with a little spray(on the contact side) and if its belts, that will make it go away temporarily. if the whine is still there, im thinking about 95% sure its your power steering pump.
