Funky Clutch..help!
My 94 4x4 PU is having clutch issues. The clutch was done a year ago by a reputable shop locally (I had no choice at the time.)
I have Rock Crawler wheels, Super Swamper TSL 32 x 10.50's, stock 4.10 gears. I have to really rev the truck up (far more than normal) in order to get the clutch to engage. If I don't it staggers and will stall. I also have to ride the clutch quite a bit before I am fully engaged and can go. This happens especially if I stop on an incline and then go from there. It is not a ceramic clutch. It is an OEM standard clutch.
Any help or advice would be great.
Thank you.

In essence what I am saying is I have to rev up high and ride the clutch for a few seconds in order for the truck to go. It is anything but a smooth crisp take off. It stagger and stalls if I dont ride it.

I had the clutch kit installed, flywheel resurfaced and the rear main seal replaced. I suspect the size of the tires and wheels have something to do with it but I dont know. Pedal seems the same I just have to ride the hell out of it now.

Either the clutch is worn out, ther is fluid on the clutch, or the pressure plate has become warped. If you have to rev high to get it going, if it's not worn out, it will be soon. Chances are the chatter or "clutch stutter" as I call it is from a warped or uneven pressure plate surface.
Your tires should not anything to do with it. I've had stock clutches do just fine with 35's. I also warped a pressure plate in a deep water hole after a hard hill climb (hot, then sudden cold water soak).

so the clutch grabs too soon and stalls the truck if you don't slip it?
first I'd recommend a good bleed and adjust.
then if you have to ride the clutch to get it going, with a hairline between fine and stall, then I'd suspect your gear ratio / tire size
unfortunately, we're missing a full description of what's going on.

Gears are stock and the tires are 32 x 10.50's SS TSL's.
I suspect swaping the gears with 4.88's would solve this problem (should it be the gear ratio / tire size.
I am unclear as to what more description I can give without tearing the thing apart and posting pictures.
I might add, if I am stopped on a hill and go forward I REALLY have to ride the clutch and the hairline becomes thinner between fine and stall.
I and a lot of folks around here would be very skeptical about this shop doing shoddy or shady work. They have a very good reputation for tranny and clutch work in this area. So I don't think I got screwed.

No, I had stock wheels and BFG's all terrain 30's when I put the new clutch in. I drove the truck for 3 to 4 months after this with no (if I remember correctly) problems. Then I bought the RC wheels, SS 32x10.50's and it seemed as if things were fine and then got progressively worse.

Therefore it sounds maybe its tire related.
Is it possible that when you switched to bigger tires, you started messing the clutch up? Maybe over heating or warping the clutch, etc...???

That is what I am trying to figure out. I wasn't aware it was possible to mess up the clutch by switching tires especially in less than a year. I offroad, hunting and exploring but nothing all that serious.
I am really careful with this truck.
