I am having what I think is a fuel system problem and I need help. I just had a remanufactured engine put in and this problem was there before this and still exists now. So I'll drive the truck for a bit and turn it off to run inside the house or store and when I return to start it, it won't start. Sometimes it will start spit and sputter and then die and won't start. At this point if I leave it alone for 30 minutes or so it will crank with no issues. I do have a new AFM on it. This has happened about 6 times in a 3 month period. I drive it everyday. Its happened 1 time since the new engine and I got it back yesterday. I was thinking maybe a fuel pump or circuit opening relay. I can hear a very high pitch whine coming from the fuel pump when its running. It's a 94 Toyota Pickup with the EFI 22RE. Any ideas?

Try unplugging the cold start injector next time, it maybe flooding/wet-plugs.

It happened again today. Unplugging the cold start injector does not help. It is starving for fuel. I sprayed started fluid in and it ran for a few seconds and quit. I feel like a relay or sensor is overheating and won't work until it cools back down.

If you can hear the fuel pump (high pitched whine or not) when the truck is running, that's too loud. You may have a pump going out.

But usually that will keep it from running at all, rather than keep it from starting.

You can easily check the VAF/COR system by jumpering FP to B+ in the diagnostic connector, the next time it won't start. With KEY-ON you should hear the fuel pump. If it starts and runs in the START position (but not w/o the jumper) there is a problem in VAF/COR (are you sure you plugged in the new VAF securely?)

By the way, vocabulary helps. I usually think the word "crank" means that the starter will run and it will turn the engine over. It sounds like you meant "starter runs, engine turns over, engine fires, engine starts, engine keeps running, no problems."

So today I took it to my mechanic an managed to get it to act up while I was there. We ran every test possible and even changed the COR. I'm gettting everything I need to the fuel pump but the fuel pump was not coming on. I just took the fuel pump out and boy what a mess. The black wire clip going into the top of the fuel pump is cracked and also full of black crud. I looks like corrosion. Even the plastic housing where the clip plugs into the fuel pump is cracked. I will need a fuel pump plus the black clip. Does anyone know where to find this black clip?

Nevermind I see that most pumps come with the wire and clip. Got any suggestions on what pump to buy?
