fuel pump relay noise 94 4runner
Hoping for help with a noise coming from (what my mechanic says) is the fuel pump relay on my 94 6cyl. 4Runner. The noise is near the ignition switch - and sounds like crickets - lots of them. The truck runs well - no trouble there. The odd thing is if I put it in 4 wheel drive, the sound goes away. Any thoughts? Is that where the fuel pump relay is located? Thanks to all for any help or ideas

This relay is, according to the book, located in the passenger kick panel. So I'm not sure about his diagnosis. You'll need to locate the sound source, you can maybe feel it in the device once it's narrowed down to a smaller area. The shutting off in 4wd is kind of odd, and makes me thing something in the transmission circuits. Maybe the solenoid that locks the key in the ignition, can you remove you key from the cylinder?
I had a similar sound, faint rapid clicking noise. It was my light reminder buzzer partly conducting thru a puddle of water. It was unpluged from the door switch at the time and the kick panel cover was off, and snowing.. (Not really related just in case someone winds up in this thread from searching "sounds like cricket")

Thanks - the sound is right behind the ignition switch. I can't remove the key when the engine is running - but I was thinking it may be a loose wire in the switch or perhaps a bad ground to the 4wheel drive light. Just doesn't make sense that it has anything to do with the fuel pump. In any case, thanks for the reply

Hey again -
It turns out the problem was the ADD Control Relay. It's located just behind the ignition switch under the dash, above the gas pedal. Oddly enough, it's labeled "fuel pump relay". Apparently this relay is related to the 4WD control. In any case, unplugging the relay stops the noise, and the truck still works fine. I can't find much on the web about this relay. Does any know what it does and if it's a problem to drive with it disconnected?
