I'm getting about 200 miles to a full tank. Is this normal or should I be getting more? It's a 1990 v6 3.0 4x4 5 speed. Help me out.

Are you driving it stupid hard? You'd be surprised how much an effect hard driving will have. Have you done a timing belt lately, like in the last couple months or so? The belt may be off a tooth or so, which would definitely account for some lost mileage, but not much power, if any. Also check for leaky gas lines or leaks in general.

Come now. How full is a "full" tank? The next 3 times you fill up, write down your mileage and save your receipt. Then you can compute a number that means something.

I get 20mpg highway, closer to 15 city (hilly terrain). So on the hwy I get quite a bit more than 200 on a tank.

As Mr Duke says, your speed really affects your mileage. It costs me about 10% to go from 61mph to 70mph.

I'm not dumb, I don't drive with my foot in it. I know that my tank is 17.5 gallons so I filled it till it came out the top, then drove till the light came on, filled it again then did the math on the differences. I think my fuel pump is taking a dump, could that be a factor?

How would a bad fuel pump affect gas mileage? Seems it would only affect mileage if it was leaking fuel to the ground.

Is this 200 miles per tank a new occurance? When did you last do a tune up?

Yea thats pretty low! i dont think the fuel pump would be a factor, but the fuel filter could be. I would start with checking your plugs. Im getting about 19 mpg out of my 95 3zve with a 5speed, but one of my O2 sensors needs to be replaced, so i might be able to increase that number. There are a ton of factors that contribute to fuel economy so start eliminating possible problems.

Red face

Just in what part of the country do you live?

This winter blend gas we get here in Pa sucks.

My mileage with my 3.4 is not that much better then yours with a fresh tune up.

A clean air filter can make a big difference. As well as the type of tires and air pressure you run.

Type of driving and the weather can make a big difference .

As stated the difference in the wind resistance between 55 to 70 can cause the fuel mileage to drop considerable
