front wheels locking up

ok this might sound a little complicated but i have a 94 toyota pickup 22re 4x4. somtimes when i have it in fourwheel drive and put it in reverse the 2 front wheels seem to lock up. not totally but barely can move and its hard to get it out of fourwheel i have to put it in first and drive for a couple of yards in order to get it out..... i don't know what it could be. I thought it might be the brakes but it only does it when i have it n fourwheel... I wonder if it could be the pinion in the front diff....... hell i dunno..... PLEase Help......... thanks

^true.

By factory, do you have to get out and lock the hubs or is it add?

are you running factory wheel sizes? If you have larger wheels, it's possible the previous owner re-geared the back, but not the front.

I have to vote with different gear ratios or a FUBAR front diff.

I bought the truck used about 3 years ago. The previous owner took good care of the truck and i wouldnt' think he would put differant gears n the rear... All 4 tires are the same. The tires that are on there now are actually car tires. "better gas mileage" I dropped it off at the shop today... Im done trying to figure it out. besides i don't know squat about fourwheel drives...

Hmm, with the hubs free, and the truck not in 4wd. try lyin' under it and spin the front driveshaft.
If you find some bindings, it might be the 3rd member.
Broken tooth in the pinion or the ring.
Maybe you'll have to put it in lock on one side or even both, and try to spin it (you can't spin it with both hubs locked, but you should hear some strange noise if the 3rd member is damaged when you move the driveshaft).

ok...... before any of this happend i was hauling some leaves down behind my house and i got stuck in 2wd. So i locked the front right wheel in and by the time i got around the truck to lock in the left one i forgot. i then put it in 4wd and then tried to climb out again still couldnt'.. then i realized i forgot to lock in the left hub and then i climbed rite out.... I wonder if i jacked somthing up on the right side by doing this???? It does seem to lock up mostly on that right side...
