Hey, what is the proper way to set the pre load on the front wheel bearings on a truck with the A.D.D.? The Haynes doesn't say. It just tells how on the various manual and auto locking hubs, nor does the service manual.

I basically followed the manual locking instructions to tighten to 43ftlbs to set the bearing then loosen till it can be turned by hand and measure oil seal friction. Then tighten to 18ftlbs, install lock washer thing and outer nut and tighten to 33ftlbs. Check preload and adjust inner nut till proper preload is reached. Is this correct?
I ended up torqueing the inner to 21ftlbs and the outer to 33ftlbs to reach 8lbs on my fish scale. Subtract 1lb for the oil seal I end up at 7lbs of preload. Will this be fine? Thanks.

The inner nut should be around 18 ft.lbs. and the outer nut at least 35 ft.lbs.. With the final preload between 6.4 - 12.6 lbs.. That's from the 88 FSM(it's missing from the online 93 FSM). So I'd say you're close enough. 2 ft.lbs. too loose on the outer nut is within margin for error...in my book. Your torque wrench could be off that much(or more) anyways. Shouldn't matter though.

ADD doesn't matter either. Or rather, is the same as manual or automatic locking hubs. Since you don't measure the preload with the hubs/drive flanges installed.

I guess since I haven't bent the lock tab or put the cover on I'll torque it to 35ftlbs check it one last time with the scale and call it done. Thanks.
