I think my front wheel bearing is going on my 95 4 runner 4x4. It squeals when driving, when I jack it up it squeals slightly and feels a little rough. A tech at the dealership said that it is rare for the bearings to go on these trucks and stated that it could be some brass bushings. Does anyone have any experience with said brass bushings? I may just try and repack the bearing and see if that helps. The bearings aren't press on/off until 96? Am I correct? Will I need any gaskets and seals aside from the outer wheel seal if I am just repacking? Do I need toyotas 54mm socket sst or will an ordinary one fit? Any hints and tips are appreciated.

Search for Spindle Bushings on here. There is a lot of information on hear about it.

Only way to find out if it's your bearings or bushings is to get in there and find out. Bearings do go bad if not maintained properly. So don't let anyone tell you different.

A "regular" socket will do fine (I think I used a 2 1/8"). I did not do the specific test on the bushings; I just repacked the bearings.

Last, I have heard that the part numbers on the front seals have changed over time. You should do a careful search here, or find a Toyota Parts girl who can read the computer. (Be sure to supply your VIN; don't make her guess.)

I definately checked the fsm. I'd be completely lost if not for that wonderful book/link. I wasn't sure if the wall thickness was an issue on the regular socket vs dealer. After snobdds mentioned the spindle bushings, I did some research and thats what I think it is.
Dealership said all the parts are special order and no return. My shop and tools are out of town so I think the first line of attack will be trying this https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...ctures-100327/
If that doesn't remedy the noise I will be replacing the bearing and bushing. If the outer brass bushing is toast are the chances of the inner being toast also pretty high?

An ordinary 54mm socket will work (at least for my 94 4WD Pickup). But there is one caveat: you have to get a socket where the gripping surfaces very start close to the edge of the socket, because the locking nuts are quite thin (I'd say a little less than 1/4"). Craftsman makes one, but I've never seen it in Sears stores - I had to order one online. Also - mine has a 3/4" drive so I needed an adapter for it.
