Front speaker enclosure boxes

I just replaced my front speakers on my 92 runner. I noticed that only my passenger side speaker had the factory enclosure box. but the drivers side just bolted onto the dash piece, am i missing the speaker enclosure for that side or is that how it is suppose to be?

Yep, when I installed my 4" infinity speakers, I noticed the lack of room. With some trimming you might be able to run 4.5" thin speakers.

Best bet, install bigger speakers in the doors and wire them together with smaller speakers in the dash! My girlfriends 4runner has 5.5" speakers in the doors

They are part of the factory "premium sound package" they do make a little difference... slightly improved bass response little cleaner mids... the speaker is not mounted directly to the dash panel so there is less "buzzy-ness" from the dash.

They take a standard toyota 4" speaker if you go to an aftermarket 4" with a larger magnet you will have to cut away part of the rear panel of the driver's side one to clear it. If your PO upgraded the speakers he probably just tossed the driver's one rather then mess with "adjusting" it. Not hard to do just a pita I did mine and covered the hole with a little dynamat type material. [I used B-Quiet].
As for fitting larger speakers about the only thing you'd have a chance of doing realistically is a pair of those 4x7 they make for use in fords but I hear the sound quality from them is garbage. There just isin't any room for anything larger then a 4" in our dashes.
On the plus side there are some great sounding 4" available from Boston Accoustic and JL Audio to mention 2.

Hope this helped Aviator

You can find one for the driver's side fairly easily. The part is the same on the truck/runner and most runners seem to have the option so it turns up in the yards regularly.
Where are you located I may be able to come up with one for you, cost you part +shipping.
Without the speaker the part is pretty light so shipping should be cheap.

Yes; it seals the back to give you better bass response & less cancellation from the back of the speaker.

FWIW both of my boxes were still there when i installed my speakers... and my kicker 4 1/2"ers fit just fine with no modifications... heck, even the tweeter tower on the speaker has enough room to clear the factory grille/opening...
