'94 22re 196,000 miles. My front seal is leaking. I have not yet pulled the pulley off, but I suspect the seal wore a grove in the pulley. How good are the repair sleeves? I was going to order one but I have seen some people saying they will leak again. I have also seen the recommendation to sand down the new seal so that the sealing surface rides on an unused part of the pulley.

The napa sleeve is about $47
The Fel Pro sleeve is about $9

Anyone have any luck with these? Is the napa sleeve that much better to justify the expense?

I have used these with good success over the years on both front main seals and on differential pinion seals.
I have always used just a bit of JB Weld smeared into the wear groove before I set the repair sleeve.
The hardness of the sleeve metal will generally determine how long the sealng surface will remain sound.
The country of origin of the sleeve would determine my choice of makers.
American, Japanese, or European, all good. Shop around some.
No Chinese slave labor goods for me. 99% junk.
Don't alter the seal.

I just ordered a Beck Arnley sleeve and seal. Hopefully they will be Japanese like the other Beck Arnley parts I have bought in the past.
