Front drive shaft

How much do you guys end up paying for a custom front drive shaft? I got a place telling me around $375. Is this high, low, okay?

I just did a square driveshaft that will be used for low speed (under 20 mph) for around $20. I do plan on getting a "correct" shaft but this got me going and it will be a trail spare. $375 isn't a bad price.

get a d44 shaft and a toy shaft and then combine them. im making a custom long travel shaft which is going to consist of 2 slip joints welded together and then shorten the tube.

Thanks for the replies, I'll just have it made, just trying to see if it was a fair price.

My son paid $479 for it custom made. It's for a Dana 44 front axle to Toyota gear box. I thought it was kinda pricey but if you want to play you gotta pay right?

Front drive shaft questions

http://i1281.photobucket.com/albums/...psa3567b74.jpg
My son got his front drive shaft made and this is how it sits at normal ride height. Is the shaft supposed to be showing so much spline? The builder claimed you could catch air and the shaft will not come apart. I just wanted to know how others shafts sit.

Here's another pic. It rides fine and hasn't been off road yet.

Use the "IMG" code so it in-lines the picture, wouldn't hurt to force the flash on either. You might get better responses, we're helpful but still kinda lazy and don't wan to have to work to help

It's probably fine if the guy says he did it right it's probably right, if it's not you know who to take it back to. If you want to know exactly how much is left you need to jack up the frame so the axle hangs and mark it then remove it and measure what is left inside.

Red face

Just curious was the vehicle there or did they just have the old drive shaft??

Did anyone mention just how much lift the vehicle had??

If this was a new driveshaft I would myself have wanted the tube longer.

Perhaps it was the case of here this one will work!!! That customer never picked it up!! I can sell it twice.

The truck was left at the driveline shop. The truck has the 8 in trailgear lift. I was just surprised to see so much spline exposed at ride height. Like mentioned, if it comes apart ill take it back thanks guys for the input.
