Front cvs always turnng?

I have a 91 4runner with ifs and the 4wd button is on the hi/lo shifter.
As i do travel some distances i want to change the front to manual locking hubs so my cvs and diffs arnt always turning. (i think this is correct)
I was looking around the net and saw it is possible to change but no information how.

Can someone tell me if A, it is possible & B. exactly what parts i need to do this and how hard it is to do myself?

thanks in advance

Stuee

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

The way I understand it the t-case only engages the front driveline when you put it into 4X (pushing the button in your case). If the front shaft isn't turning then why would your CV shafts turn?

With out manual hubs the front end is always connected. So when the front wheels are turning when driving, the hubs and cvs are still tied togather causing the rotation. When the transfer case is engaged power from the truck is put the front shafts. With manual hubs you disconnect the wheels from the CVs so only the tires turn when in the Free position. Auto disconnecting differential or ADD system is a pain in the But

Swapping in manual hubs is very easy to do. You need the hubs and all the bolts you needed to remove in order to remove the hubs. It will not net you enough of a gain in mpg to notice, but it will reduce wear on the boots.
