Question FRAME SWAP!!!!!!!! Some1 knows

I have a 1990 yota 2wd. runs great...everything works. I want buy a 4x4 truck, swap my engine, bed, and cab onto the 4x4 frame. I know the engine will swap, i'm sure the bed will swap, will the cab swap? will the mounts be in the same location?? I can not find any post or artical or anything on this type of swap..anywhwere!!!! i mean, i cant be the only person who's ever thought of this. I will not part with the truck b/c i got it from my grand dad who had it for over 13 years. truck is to low for me and i'm extreamly motivated to make this kind of swap. Anybody???plz? thanx Jon

keep the 2wd as a DD and buy a 4x4 to be your wheeling rig. If not, i think the mounts may be the same, not too sure.

X10000

The 2wd will get better fuel economy and have more power as well.

It can be done and if your already looking at swapping bodies it wouldn't be THAT much more work to fab up your own mounts anyways

If you've got the FSM, you'll find frame dimensions in there under Body Mechanical. If you're pulling the engine and everything, it isn't all that bad. I've stripped the truck down to the frame, all by myself.

Everything body wise should bolt up. The front end will be different. Not sure about the rear leafs either.

Talking

thanks for the imput. I was looking for an email saying that their were replies...but i just ran upon it...my reasion for this swap is the truck itself means alot to me being my grand dads. but I'm a 4x4 guy. So keeping the body and throwing a 4x4 frame under it means alot to me. So for me i need/want to do this swap. I have acess to a welder, and if needed i'll move some body mounts. i hope it's a smooth process. have my eyes on an early 80's 4x4 and an 89-90's 4x4 truck. i cant wait to get this one done!!!! thanx jon

How about keep the 2wd frame and "just" SAS it? I don't' see why that wouldn't work.

I have read that the 2wd sas is'nt that good of an idea b/c of the fame not being strong enough for off roading with 4x4.

thanx i looked over the swap. but again it's a 4x4 to 4x4 swap. i stoped by a guys house down the road thats asking 750 for a wrecked 81 model 4x4. inside is awsome. cab and the rear are in bad shape. i decided not to even bother with that truck b/c it's and 81 and it was wrecked. i have me eyes on an 89 4x4 that has a bad motor for 500bucks.... i think my best shot is choseing a 4x4 truck frame near the same yaer as my 90 yota. hopefully i'll find a doner and transform my 2wd into a 4x4. and who ever else wants to do somthing like that will see it can be done...muhahaha

cool my chassis swap thread got remembered! =) At least im good for something hehe

hmmwv! I figured you'd of posted your thread on your cab swap

https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...b-swap-120303/

Since you moved a 2wd cab to a 4x4 frame.

But everything should line up just fine. You can do this in 4 days with little to no help. I know because I did. =p It's a huge project tho and I took almost a year planning everything out so it'd go perfectly smooth (and it did).

goodluck

Yeah, I figured your thread would be more useful, I was kind of lazy on my writeup.

Make sure that's a hefty tree limb.

so i picked up the yota today. it's actually in alot better shape i expected it to be. now i'm thinking of a few ways i could do this. the 89 is efi 4x4. i thinking of switching my 90 carb to the efi and 4x4??? well see when i get to that point. the body on the 89 is in fair shape. beds in decent shape. the dash cluster has a factory tach in it. cool hu? all i'm useing is the fame and 4x4 parts. the rest might as well be junk to me...but maybe not everyone else. if their are any locals i need this thing to disappear after i'm done with my swap other wise it goes to the junk man...lol. well i leave out of town tomarrow for two weeks.(my job) cant wait to come back and start the swap!!!

Oh wow, didn't realize your in covington! I'm over here in winder, so I guess if you run into a serious road block, I may or may not be able to get down there to help you, but I'll see what I can do. Your a hour away and I can't really afford the gas down there. I have a project of my own!
