Fog Light wiring
Okay soo i forgot on my old truck i had a set of piaa 510 foglights one bulb was blown from were i wrecked it. So tonight i picked up an h3 bulb from walmart so both lights work. I have never wired lights before but these have 12 or 14 gauge wire n thats what i plan to use. i also picked up an inline fuse holder and a switch, what else do i need to wire them and seriously how do i wire them up to work on the switch?

get a relay as well. run a negative from battery to the first light, to the second light, to the relay. run a positive to the relay. run your switch across the coil side of the relay. make sense?

like that. that way you don't have to run the 12/14 gauge through the firewall, or through the switch. just go to an auto parts store and tell em you want a relay for fog lights. where this guy tied into the you ign/battery, you could use a double throw switch and run it through the head light switch as well. that way push the switch up, and they are on/off w/ the head lights, push the switch down and they are on regardless.

google BOSCH RELAY WIRING DIAGRAM. You'll find something to work perfectly...just dont run the load carrying wire through the switch...just the trigger wire for the switch to relay.

Okay I wire the lights pos. to the relay neg to ground on battery, then wire pos. and neg from battery to relay then switch to relay why do I need to run the switch to the fusebox, won't I have the in line fuse between pos. on battery and relay?

The wiring diagram above use's the positive for the switch from a keyed on accessory (spelling) inside the cab from under the dash...just one wire from the switch through the firewall....cleaner install and the wire through the firewall carrys a very low amp/ current. You just need a very low electrical signal to trigger the mechanism inside the relay to switch over and close the circuit. The fuse is between the Positive side of the battery and the relay...this will carry the main load and should be a 30 amp inline fuse...as said you've already picked up. Ground the lights to the frame. Also, in the diagram, you're probably not going to need the extra light that comes off the switch if you've already purchased a toggle switch that has an internal light...ie..lit when current is run to it and not lit when the fog lights are off.

To make it simple,
The relay is a switch. But the relay switch can pass a bunch more power than a little dash switch.
So your dash switch will turn on the relay switch, which will pass much more power through to the lamps allowing you to get full use from the high output bulbs.
So high battery voltage/amps will travel to the relay and wait until signaled to turn on by the dash switch. Then the good juice will be sent to the lamps.
If you were able to pass the power a relay can handle through a little dash switch, something will get melted.
Mount your relays close to the lamps, that way you will have less voltage drop.
A simple relay diagram as posted earlier is all you need.

Gauge 110V 12V
22 5A 5A
20 7.5A 8A
18 10A 10A
16 13A 20A
14 17A 40A
12 23A 60A
10 33A 100A
Your truck is 12V. 12ga wire can handle 60A at 12V (according to this chart I found). If you have that 30A fuse in there, you should be good w/ 12 or 14 ga.
Just pick up a kit like this. If you need it once, you will need it again. Hard to tell how many connectors you are going to break/drop/have your dog eat while you work on it. When you get the relay, you can buy the pigtail kit for it or use spade connectors. Hard to tell you what you need on the battery side...do you have a distribution block, screw terminal, etc? For the switch leg, you do not need wire this big.
This is a pic of a relay and the pigtail. With the pigtail you can solder and shrink wrap for a clean install, or just go with this approach:
22 5A 5A
20 7.5A 8A
18 10A 10A
16 13A 20A
14 17A 40A
12 23A 60A

If you are inexperienced and don't know much about wiring, your best bet would probably be to just order up a PIAA wiring harness like you said. It will be really easy to install because it should just be plug-and-play with your 510's. Here is a diagram of how I installed my PIAA 520's to my Yakima rack. I used the PIAA relays, but I had to completely modify the wiring harness because the PIAA harness was nowhere near long enough. Keep in mind that your install will be much easier because you only have 2 lights and 1 relay instead of 4 lights and 2 relays.
I used a factory fog light switch instead of the PIAA switch so I had to modify that part of the wiring harness just a bit. The PIAA switch is plugged into the wiring harness so that setup is easy but if you use any other 3 prong switch then the setup I posted above will work just fine.
