Flamethrower's Injectors (Review and Hardwiring New Connectors Tutorial WIP)

The old (original) injectors had their fun, but now it's time they are put out to pasture. Ordered a set of rebuilt 4-hole injectors from Flamethrower. I'll be writing a full review of the injectors themselves within the next few days/weeks. So that's coming...

In the meantime, since my stock injector connectors (the little blue pieces of brittle death) are literally becoming dust in the wind, I figured I'd solder new connectors (the ones that match the new injectors) onto the existing wiring harness. Might as well eliminate the dying middle man, so to speak.

After completing the new connector install on cylinders 1, 3, and 5, I'm sitting here eating a bowl of cereal and giving my back a break (soldering while bent over an engine sucks and hurts). Here's one of the many photos I've taken along the way...a full tutorial for anyone wanting to do the same should be posted within the next day or so. Consider this your taste of things to come...

Stay tuned...

it's not unusual to see that several of the original injectors have been replaced. when i used to deal with the stock injectors, we would see about 1/4 of the 3VZE we were working on had aftermarket or newish appearing injectors.

I'm taking a break right now from installing them as well. I hope you report back (Ironsaman) and give us your experience. I have high hopes for these!

It's so hard to find time to do all the work I want to do

Looking forward to it. Just completed mine and she started up well. Tired as heck so only short test drive around the block showed all is well. I felt a bit of a difference but will test more to make sure its not in my head. Cheers

Ironsmanmedic, I'm not trying to hijack your thread, but I'd like to add my short review instead of make another thread.

I installed these tan injectors, car took a second to get fuel to the rails and started up. It ran for a few seconds, died. Tried couple times, and remembered that for the orange flamethrowers I had to tune the VAFM 11 clicks lean. Brought that back to stock, car fired up and kept going like a champ. Since then I put about 150 miles on it already and I must say these injectors have been a world of a difference for my engine. Runs MUCH more smooth, no popping/backfiring and definitely changes in the throttle response and low end available power.

Thus far, they are great! I am very happy with them and a very big thank you goes to Flamethrower (Curtis) for his service. My 4Runner is feeling great and again a pleasure to drive! (Other than that pesky intermittent code 52 )

Hi i have been sent a free set of injectors by flamethrower but have devloped an idle issue which i believe is not fuel related. so until this is sorted i will not be fitting injectors :-( .

I was so happy with this past weekends performance of the 4Runner that I thought I'd come in here and add a quick update. Again, sorry Ironsmanmedic, but I am not tryign to jack your thread, just to add my review in the same thread so it's more useful for others.

The 2000 miles or so since the new injectors and the engine/ECU has adjusted itself well to it. The orange flamethrowers were giving me 14 mpg, 15 in best case (avg). The new ones, granted I sorted out some grounding issues as well) are MUCH better in all aspects. They WORK, I have enough power to maintain 60mph on the grapevine (few miles of 5% and 6% grade) in 3rd ~ 3500 rpm. Also, my mileage has increased to an average (hwy bias) of 17.5 mpg. That in itself is a HUGE deal.

At this point, I'm convinced these are the right aftermarket injectors for this engine. Assuming your intake and exhaust system aren't 'heavily' modded.
