fixing damaged wiring connectors

I have an 86' 22re in a 4x4 pickup. The connectors for my TPS and Coolant Temp. Sensor seem to be damaged. I replaced the temp sensor and am still getting a temp sensor code. How do I know for sure also, if the are damaged what is the best way of replacing them? I ordered the above connectors from the yotayard in Colorado and had them leave a few inches of wire off the end so I could cut the old ones out and splice the new ones in if needed. If there is a better way to go about this I would love to know. I have a feeling that splicing new ones in will affect the resistance of the curcuit cuasing the sensors to give a false reading. Thanks in advance for all the help.

When you replace the plugs, slide some heat shrink tubing over the wires, solder the wire splices then shrink the tubing over the solder joints. That will negate any issues with resistance readings and prevent most any failure in the future.

As for knowing for sure the wiring is bad, have you tested the wiring for continuity from the sensor plug to the ECU?

Yes I have. So there should not be any problem splicing. If I am understanding you correctly I need to strip the ends of the wires solder them together and and place a piece of heat shrink tubing over each one.
