Hey fellas,

At long last, I've finished installing a ton of goodies on my 92 3vze. Headers and a new clutch mainly, along with a ton of accessories.

I tried cranking it for the first time today. Electrical is good, cranked perfectly, only no ignition.

I'm wondering if there's anything that needs to be done before the car can start after a long downtime with the engine out. Any common mistakes I could have made in rewiring? I'm gonna dig through it and run some diagnostics on it (somehow) in the meantime.

I checked and I have fuel pressure at the connection just above front-right frame.

Anyone know a simple test to check for arcing of the plugs?

pull a plug wire, stick a small screwdriver in there, and place the metal part within 1/8" of something metal without touching it (rest the plastic anywhere, just as long as the metal isn't touching anything). Have a buddy turn it over and watch for spark.

btw before you do all that check your fuses for S&G's

Or to check for spark... the safest best way would be a test sparkplug (usually 3-4 dollars)... U leave it connected to a wire and it has a clip on it and u clip it to metal and crank and watch the spark jump)

found the problem: no spark at the high tension cord off the coil

I've gone through the manual's troubleshoot for no spark a dozen times, checking power to the igniter and power to the ecu, and the integrity of the circuit between the two.

The FSM dumps me off with either a bad ecu or bad igniter, I highly doubt either went bad just in the time they were out of my truck. I've since checked the igniter +coil on another truck and it started just fine.

I'm stumped so far. I'm pretty damn sure my grounds are all good, but I may have disturbed some sensory connections when I took it apart.

My question, if anyone would be able to help me here, is thus: what is the complete pipeline of getting a signal from the ecu to the spark plug? are there any sensors that, if damaged or not connected, would cause the ecu to disallow the car to start? what other problems could I be facing?

again, my problem is no spark right off the coil, so somewhere down the line something is preventing spark.

still no success on this front

a recap of what i'm going through: no spark at/before the igniter

just pulled the engine to throw on a pair of headers, put the engine back in, rewired, and no start. it cranks good, its got fuel pressure, grounds have been checked over and over, and i've been going through and checking every sensor that has input to the ecu in the FSM wiring layout. no dice

im totally stumped, ive spent the last 2 weekends checking all the connections to the harness that i disturbed in the process of taking the engine out and havent found anything faulty.


note that the check engine light is not coming on. i pulled off the dash and checked the bulb - its fine. whatever is wrong is not tripping the ecu to turn on the CEL.

i can go into much more detail about my situation to anyone who asks.

what do you think could be wrong with this truck?

im totally burned out of ideas, so ill be shipping off the ecu to my cousin who will check it in a working truck.

anyone have experience with symptoms similar to this?

I KNOW THIS SOUNDS STUPID BUT DID YOU CHECK ALL THE FUSES INSIDE THE CAB AND UNDER THE HOOD???

x2. Check you EFI fuse on the passenger side to the left of the engine bay as you look at it.
