finished head gasket, white smoke

i finally finished the headgasket and fixed the little things that were wrong with it the first time i tried to crank it. I got it running now but its pouring white smoke out the tailpipe still. I know its normal to have some smoke for a while when you first start it, but when should i expect it to stop? Do i have anything to worry about?

You probibly filled your exhaust pipe with coolant when the hg blew. Let it burn out, if it doesnt clear up or show signs of getting better you might have a problem.

No milk mixture in the oil? No oil in the coolant?

make sure you didn't attatch an IICV coolant line to a vaccum port on the intake when you put things back together...

you'd be surprised...

Where would i find an iicv coolant line? One of the only line i knew was coolant that ran off the intake manifold was under the throttle body. It had 2 ends, and i got those hooked up right. I labeled every line that came off the manifolds with masking tape to make sure i didn't mix them up, but its still a possibility. I only had the truck running for 30 minutes and drove it around the block once.. so i might just need to give it more time.

there's one that points down from the IICV and runs to a point under the intake manifold; then there's one that runs off the IICV and points to the driver's side that makes a few cuves and goes back right onto a fitting in about the center of the intake manifold that's pointing straight up...

this is of caurse if you're talking about a 22re?

Re-check all your connections...

but every HG I've done it will burn white for awhile. Coolant typically inevitably makes it way into the exhaust it can take awhile to burn it all off

I did the head job about 4 months ago and mine is STILL smoking.

What is this IICV you speak of? I know the hose you're talking about under the intake manifold, but where's the other that you're talking about?

I have rechecked my connections, but i will do so again. For now should i just drive it around and see if it stops after a couple days?

IICV (Idle Air Control Valve) uses the motor's coolant to up the idle when the motor is cold, and lowers the idle to normal once the motor has warmed up and warmed water flows through it.

on the 22re's, it right at the front ot the intake manifold, bolted to the underside of the throttle body; on the 3.0, I have no idea though I'm not a 3.0 guy...

make sure you didnt put one or two on upside down, i did this on my 22re and everything bolted up and nothing seemed wrong until I went to start it and it poured white smoke. Turned it over and drove it around and no more white smoke. I wouldnt just let it run to clear cooland from the exhaust, I would actually drive it, and go through some RPM's to clear it out of the converters.

I read someone's post (i think it was you) about that before i did the job, so i held them up to the originals to make sure i put them on right. They were also labeled right and left, which helped.

So the one on the passenger side...how long is that hose and where does it plug into? (i replaced all my hoses when i did the head job and I'm wondering if i did it right.)

Also, where's this other hose you're talking about that strings around the engine? (i'm on the 22re)
