here, lemme try to get the thread back, lol

What do yall think about that broken stud?

Those do just unscrew out right? If so, that's an easy replacement, as I'm sure I could find a stud the same size to replace it with around town.

It shouldn't harm anything with that one bolt missing for now, you think?

i think you are good to go. when you do get around to fixing it, just get some vice grips on it and unscrew it out.

Hmmm...
Romance... Men...
...sounds like a broken stud to me.

(I cut out the part about finding the same size stud around town)

I hate the fact that "techs" charge an insane amount of money for what I've found to be really easy jobs.

This attitude started years ago when a guy helped me, coached me actually, through a spring over axle conversion on a Scout in exchange for the axles I pulled out. It was a great feeling to do my own work with someone making sure I didn't mess it up.
I seriously love this attitude. If there is anyone in Eugene, Oregon who feels this way give me a shout. There are a lot of maintenance things that I want to learn how to do - that I am embarrassed to admit that I don't know how to do. There should be a regional forum for people like this to hook up.

I don't think they could screw in from the back; their's a flat shank portion of the stud that, well, doesn't have any threads to screw in...

I tried to grip a pair of vice-grips on it today to try to turn it out, but it's broken off too short, so I'm going to have to pull the hub off to pull the freeking stud out. I mean, that's no real big deal; I could pull it off in prbably 2 minutes (a 10mm, 12mm, ratchet, 13 bolts, and it's not even messy if done right), so if I feel spunky I might tackle it this week, otherwise I'll wait till the weekend.

Great job

Glad to see it all came together in the end. I wouldnt worry about the stud. Im not sure if they unscrew or pound out.. Never bothered to torque mine, just did them till they were tight.

Im probibly gonna be doing the wheel bearings in my girls 4runner soon... woo!
