Question Factory Hand Throttle

Did a search on ToyotaPartSales.com for a hand throttles and didn't find anything. Did a search here and found RobinHood's & 4Crawler's hand throttle solutions. 4Crawlers is located in the factory location on the dash and is way safer solution than RobinHood's, but is not the Toyota control. I believe that everything (dash mount, engine mount, firewall hole) is already there except the cable & control.

So has anyone (how about you international guys, Tepui, et al) seen the Toyota hand throttle control, cable, manifold mounting? Part #s Phil/strap22??

With 22RE, 4.7:1 low, but 4.10 diffs w/ 32" tires, there are times that it would be very handy to be able to hold a little gas by hand, while feathering the clutch & brakes at the same time (crawling BIG rocks, i.e. Carnage Cyn, Flatiron Mesa, ..). As it is, I'll use the parking/emergency brake to hold it from rolling back while feathering the throttle & clutch. But it only holds two wheels!!

(Note to moderators: Maybe this should be posted in the non-year-specific forum)

Sorry Steve(Robinhood). It had your Avatar/login next to it in the tech write-ups section. I guess it's actually Chris (OicnaiC) that has it. BTW, tried the link to "Robinhoods's Lair" and it "no worky".

Cebby:
Wasn't sure if the Slee/Toyota one would actually work with a 1st Gen 4R since it's supposed to be for the '91-'97 LC. If anyone knows for sure if it works on 86-95 Toys, please post.

Emailed Christo Slee. He said it was specific to the FJ80 Land Cruiser and connected to the gas pedal. Sounded like he thought wouldn't work.

From a post I made on 4x4wire...

"So the little round plug to the lower left of the handbrake is where the hand throttle went on the diesel trucks, so I looked up the part numbers on the EPC and the price from 1sttoyotaparts.com just for fun. The cable connects to the top of the gas pedal linkage, so I don't think it would be hard at all to adapt (probably just plug-and-play).

There are only three parts:

The cable: #7840189107 $42.33
The nut to hold the cable to the dash: #9017011006 $0.24
The knob for the end of the cable: #7841189103 $6.36

It's the 'pull and turn to set' type of throttle. I don't have the money to give it a try right now, but I figured I'd put the details up if anyone wanted to give it a try. Probably not as cheap as a bicycle shifter, but it might make up for it in terms of being factory and probably plug-and-play. "

Awesome!!! That's exactly what I was looking for!

Are you sure that 7840189107 doesn't already include the nut and knob?? The diagram seems to imply that it is part of that assembly.

Thanks again!

Hey Stock87,

Where did you get that exploded diagram? From looking at my rig, it looks like you have to replace the gas pedal shaft to get the bracket that the hand throttle attaches to (left top of 78110 assembly). Mine only has the rod that connects to the cable going to the engine (right top of the 78110 assembly).

The other thing is that there's no metal plate or bracket to hold the handle in the dash, just the plastic panel.

Well, the hand throttle only came on the diesel trucks, which is what all those other strange linkages are for. The only difference is that extra little ear on the gas pedal assembly, like you said. I always figured you could just hook the hand cable into the normal spot on the gas pedal and probably have it work just as well. I have no idea where the cable is supposed to go, but I'd wager that it's short and thick enough it doesn't need any extra bracing. I finally got a job for the summer, so I may pick one up to experiment with (not because I need it but because it'd be cool to have).

I got the diagram from the EPC you can get from yankeetoys.org.

Actually, looking more closely at the diagram, I just noticed where the cable is supposed to hook into. If you follow the dotted line off the 91616-40616(2) notation, it points to another set of ears where I'm sure the fixed part of the cable hooks too. I guess you do need the whole pedal assembly if you want it to work like factory. I bet you could fab up a bracket to make it work with the gas truck pedal too. I don't even want to know what the diesel pedal assembly would cost, assuming you can even still get it.

TNRabbit ,

That's for a go-kart. Do you really think that could be used? I think you'd be better off spending the extra $30 for a real hand throttle, such as the Toyota one or the one that 4Crawler used.
