extended cab SASed pickup

I have a Trail-Gear 4" lift with a 12" slip in my driveline, and am having clearance issues at my front universal. The truck was aligned after the SAS, and it drives really good both on the street, and dirt. I have already replaced 1 universal, and need help. I dropped my xfer bracket down 1/2" and still only have about 1/8" when I spin the yoke up. I am still running the cv joing at the top, and I am not doubled yet. Some say that I will need to double to get better angle, but the $$ is not there. Any advice? Thank You, Rob

What's it hitting on? I guess you could try dropping the cross member a little more. Got any pics?

The slip yoke is hitting on the flange, and pulling the u joint apart. How much is too much to drop it?

Is it a manual or auto? If manual, I guess the first problem you'd run into with dropping down more would be the shifters not having enough room to move. Of course short throw shifters would help there.

It is the flange that the front universal bolts to on the center section.

This is another view.

The shifting is fine, but when you wheel it breaks. It is not fun getting uplled off the trail by a Heep.

Oh I see now, it looks like the pinion angle is the problem, look this link over:

http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTri...line-101.shtml

I think you need to correct the pinion angle by shimming the front axle spring perches.

Isn't crossover steering suppose to solve that problem? Maybe someone with a SA will chime in here.

If the caster is too far forward (to much axle up angle). The nickles will be sitting at an angle where they will cause bump steer regardless of what steering you use.

Hmmm....there are lots of guys that have successfully done SA conversions, although I've been leary of doing it myself. Surely they all didn't have dual cases.

x2 - you need to fix the pinion angle. You're going through ujoints now, you'll be going through ring and pinions shortly. The pinion needs to point directly to the transfer case.

You can do it by adding shims or rotating the spring perches, but that will eliminate your caster and may create deathwobble. The best way would be to rotate the knuckles - cut them off, clock them, and reweld the housing (they did a good job explaining it on an episode of Xtreme 4x4)

Looking at the picture - you have hella bodylift - do you have a drivetrain lift too?

Makes sense, here's some more info on that:

I have no drivetrain lift. I did drop the xfer case down 1/2in to see what it would do. I made the problem better by putting 3 deg shims in the front. This made the problem better. The next thing that I will do is double. I know that this will not "fix" the problem, but make it better. I am scared to go any more with the shims, so I will leave it here for now. I hope that doubling will help it. Thank You, Rob
