I have a 3.0. I've noticed that im getting smoke when I let off the gas pedal. Is this a sign of something in particular? After driving for a bit it goes away most of the time. It's only when I let off the gas. When pressing the pedal there is no smoke at all. Any ideas.

Valves or valve guide is my guess. When's the last time valves were adjusted?

Don't know. Head gasket was replaced before I got it though. Probably then about 1 year ago

New here wont let me wright my own post yet got a Q's let's see if I get some info put new exhaust on 1991 22re and seam to has lost power 2 1/2 to a flow master given to me with out cat

Don't thread high jack, it's rude.

2 1/2 exhaust is too big for your truck. You probably lost most of your low end power. Truck doesn't care about cat, just o2 sensor.

There's a few emission control systems that are meant to reduce emissions specifically when decelerating. That would be my educated guess on where to start. You'd be looking at your PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) valve located on the RH cylinder cover (passenger side) or your PAIR (Pulsed Secondary Air Injection) valve which is located just off to the lower-left hand side, hidden beneath all your vacuum lines.

Valves could also be the culprit where a valve is out of spec, allowing air in or out when it's not supposed to. If this is the case, your engine will wobble a lot and have a reduction in power.

Basically as long as your truck is running ok and there's no codes, it's not a terrible issue. There's no way you'll pass smog though so it'll have to be fixed if your state requires it.
