engnbldr 22re head installed now questions
I got my 22re back together after installing a new head/cam combo from engnbldr with the 261 cam. Installed my injectors that came from witchhunter.
Started up fine and after the valves adjustment it runs smooth. Thats the question, i can not tell any difference in power or the sound from before.
Does the cams supposed to sound different?
Also after running the truck for a couple of hours and smelled gas. Checking everything i found the number 3 injector leaking badly. Everything was fine before no leaks anywhere.
Is this just a bad o-ring seal or is it possible my injector is cracked?

I have a slight but noticable lope at idle with my 261 cam and Street RV head, but at low RPM acceleration you can really hear the cam thumping if you have a better flowing more open exhaust
with my setup, the power is NOTICABLY more, more so from about 1500 RMPs to about 4500 RMPs, and it kinda falls on it's face at about 4750 RPMs
but at the same time, the motor's also .30 over, has a header and full exhaust, and has all the emission junk removed (cat, PAIR, and EGR)
you should notice a good bit more power though, unless maybe you're timing's off
Ted at engnbldr reccomended about 2 degree more than stock, and that's right where mine's set, and it does great
he also mentioned that adjusting the AFM is NOT necesary
what are the rest of the specs on the motor, all stock?
as far as the fuel leak, it just sounds like a leaking gasket; I hardly believe the injector itself could crack

be my best guess that the injector o ring got fubared somehow....stuff happens, and if you ran the truck for a couple hours and figured out you had a fubared o ring or cracked injector maybe that was the hinder on the power?? but a head and a cam arent gonna make this thing a rocket...just a little bit more low end power

i can tell that my truck has a cam in it for sure...(bring your idle down to about 750rpms and you will DEFINATELY hear it)..mines at about 900-1000 and cant hardly hear it at all..
bleeder is right about the power picking up at about 1200-1500 rpms..my 3rd gear kicks ass...makes passing on county roads a BREEZE!!!!....however my 5th gear is kinda ty..my 4th gear feels kinda stock-ish..lol
im done with power upgrades to the 22r though..next time i want more power..i'll start saving up and throw in a bigger motor..like a 3rz..CPI4.3, 4BT, 3.4(highly doubtful), will probably be a big V6 or a small V8..lol..302, 305, SB350..

I'm still thinking about an LS1 myself
maybe a few years from now, after I get another daily driver, lol

Yeah i know theres not a lot to get a lot of power from a 22re. I needed a head and ted recommended the 261 cam for more pulling power. So i went with his complete head setup.
The motor is stock except for the pacesetter exhaust (cat gutted) and egr/air injector blocked/removed aka lcengineering kits and tune up kit also from lcengineering
I still have to replace a broken temp switch (the green one beside the cold start sensor under the t-stat housing)
Would this switch cause any issue as for power/sound?
One other oddity the 4x4 light in dash blinks very quickly, hyavent checked it out yet but i have the manual hubs so this only comes on when you put the selector in 4 low/high.
btw. ITs a 1991 dlx with auto.

I can't remember exactly what that sensor is for I know one's for the ECU and one's for the cold start valve, but I can't remember which...
the plug wire bracket looks like it works a lot better with LCE's wires
the NGK wires aren't quite long enough to make use of all the holes, lol

Well got the intake off and installed a new o-ring on leaking injector.
Replaced the broken sensor and installed under t-stat housing. Fixed 4x4 light (loose trans wires).
Checked timing and is set at 7degrees. Drove around a couple of hours and re-checked.....same damn injector leaking again!
Picking up a new intake gasket tomorrow as this one won't take a 3rd remove and install. Also going to get yet another o-ring and maybe another injector?
After all this and no codes, truck still sound the same doesnt sound like aftermarket cam (no lope) even at very low idle. Performance is no different than stock head and stock cam before i replaced it.

Did you replace the top or bottom o ring? You may have replaced the wrong one maybe you should check it as it idles and see if you can tell if you replaced the wrong o ring just a thought.
By the way where on L.C's web site did you guy's find the plug wire mount I can't seem to find it anywhere.

yes its the o-ring in the fuel rail not intake side. It was all new from witchhunter and i replaced it with another new one.
It runs smooth though no skips or roughness at all. While it was running i twisted the injector an got it to stop leaking for the most part. Im still going to tear everything off again though. This is not my primary vehicle so ive got time.
As for the wire loom was in their tuneup kit that has wires,plugs,cap,etc.. I dont know if they have it seperate or not though

update: Got the leaking injector fixed once and for all. Found my cat almost closed so after cleaning it out the engine has a lot more low end power. Now i can hear a slight lope to it. Ran the truck for a few hours yesterday and now i have code 25.
Since the o2 is the factory one im going to replace it to see if it fixes the engine light.

Time for head gasket...again. Wife was driving the truck and called that she saw "smoke" under the hood. When i checked it out, it was steaming under the hood and out the exhaust.
She said the temp gauge never ran hot (about in the middle) so im hoping the head didnt crack or even worse the block.
Got to many irons in the fire right now so this round may take a good while until i can tear it down again.
