Engine Replacement Options

Ok well after searching the forums countless times and nothing really helping, i decided to put this all together to maybe help someone out...

I have a 90 Toyota Pickup that i am considering putting a rebuilt 22-re into.

Like everyone else who has this little motor, we have all considered a swap, but if your still looking into replacing or rebuilding it, obviously its not feasible for you to do right now.

I am putting together a list of places you can order an engine from and their warranties prices and other things.

Oregon Engine Rebuilders
http://oregonengines.net/Archives/price.nxg
Stock - $1095 -UNLIMITED WARRANTY - $500 Core Charge
SuperStock -$1495 - UNLIMITED WARRANTY - $500 Core Charge

Japan Engines Inc.
http://www.japanengine.com/products/...&search=&page=
Stock - $1595 - 12 month 12k mile warranty - NO Core Charge
***Must be installed by ASE Cert Mechanic for warranty***

Sunwest Automotive Engine
http://www.sunwestautomotiveengines.com/lb-toyota.html
Stock - $1468.50 - not sure -$300 core

Johns Foreign Engines
22re.com
Stock - $1499.00 - not sure - $400 core

I will add more when i have time, if you have some you want me to add just lmk and ill edit them in. Also ill try to get the warranties and fine print for all added in. I hope this will help the next person looking for this same information.

I bought one from Sun West. Guys were good to deal with and even now after a couple years. I blew a head gasket from rust in my coolant system, don't ever use the low tox coolant!!!! Up till the head gasket blow I was happy with my motor. and even now I feel the guys there have been fare.

Whoever you go with you might want to have them use a stock head gasket over an aftermarket. From the pics I've seen there is a difference in most all aftermarket head gaskets and the stock beasides the material. As not all the water passages are there in the aftermarket and the passages are larger in the stock gasket. I will know for sure by this weekend as I'll pick a Toyota gasket up to go back in. There is a headgasket thread that talks about some of these aftermarket issues.

I know they will change out with a 22r I just haven't completed my list yet. There are still a few vendors I have wrote down that I haven't added yet either.

I will be editing my original post so all the good info stays on top and readily available.

22re preformance. Probably the most expensive out of the bunch, but the quality is much higher too. Just received my new engine from them and it is waiting to be installed. It is a complete engine from valve cover to oil pan.

what about LC engineering? they make stuff from stock to wild. they say they have a 3 year unlimited mile warranty and free shipping on the remanufactured replacement long block. 1800 bucks.

they also build stock motors if you call and ask (with new heads not reman ones).

.....or you could spend upwards of 5k on a 22re forced induction stroker motor.....

Heard some funny things about built LCE engines, if you are interested there is local guy selling one (brand new) because he totaled his truck before installing it. Check San Luis Obispo Craigslist he wants $2k and its the stage 2

Got a head and gasket kit from japanengines and it was cheap and it still works great. The staff was easy to get a hold of if you have questions and seem very nice. Never got a whole motor from'em though

I have had custom machining in Dallas Oregon do some engine work for me on a 3.0 and they do good work. Chad is really easy guy to talk with and knows toyota's. He has a really cool 91 Standard Cab Toyota with all the goodies, SAS, built motor ect.

Cool place to work with.
